Not trying to make an argument or cause inflammatory stuff. That just ain't me. I believe the faceless crowd of the internet can be coherent, logical, and sane.
The game was moved out of beta about 10 months or so. In that time frame, there has been quiet a few changes (Tanks changed twice, loot table changed, balance here and there) and a few additions to the game (Commando, Flaylock, Rail Rifle, Combat Rifle, etc). However, huge portions of the game that were stated would be available at the time of release (all races having their own suits, etc.) still have not come out. Including the bugs that are still fairly prevalent, do you feel that the game is still effectively in beta?

I don't believe it's in a beta state anymore, but that's coming from someone who played the closed beta. To see the difference between Dust in its earliest stages and how far it has come since then, along with ridiculously short amount of time that said progression has taken place in, leaves me feeling optimistic about the game's future.

I'd consider it a full release with regular patches. Coming from the closed beta as well I can vouch for the content which has been added since things opened up has been huge. I've come to love DUST for what it offers and I look forward to where it will go.

Should release have been delayed until the game was more fit to be called "complete with room for iteration and expansion"?

Yes, I consider this a beta and the closed beta an alpha. A lot has changed and a lot has improved but there's still a lot of things that haven't and still need work. There are also suits, vehicles, and weapons that still aren't even in the game yet.
I'm optimistic that CCP will eventually get everything in the game and working properly but I think they should have waited until they had it all ready to go before calling the game "released"

My best friend and I regularly play for 3 hours a night and both consider this game to be in beta. The lack of racial variants is one of the bigger factors. Lack of Game modes is up there. Bugs are a problem (but the bigger problem is that they go FOR YEARS unchecked).
But the single biggest issue in my mind is the complete lack of polish. 20 seconds to bring up a scoreboard. Should take .2 like every other game.
40 seconds to load team chat.
Matches that start 16 v 2 and never fill the other side out.
Every single UI interaction takes ages.
Also my tank turns right when I push left and vice versa. Pisses me off. |

When we have the full racial lineup of suits/weapons/vehicles/turrets, the initial major balancing is complete (with only minor tweaking), and I don't have to hit the jump button to go over a 2" curb, I will consider this game "out of beta."

Once they release all racial weapons, vehicles, and equipment along with a better eve connection and PvE content then by my eyes and mind it'll still be considered a beta. It's why I don't take this game seriously. Oh almost forgot too, better PC cause right now it's just a sad joke and not even worth participating in.

Having just lost 550k+ (300k losses + win reward monies) due to being unceremoniously ejected from a game. No kick msg whatsover just back a blackscreen and back to quarters, and any attempts afterwards to join a match are met with that same blackscreen and a message saying "the match is no longer available" upon returning to quarters. So, yeah still in beta.Not going to mention the list of stuff missing or needs fixing.

yes, I mean as some one stated above, its a ccp game its never finished and critical and promised elements are always missing but...... yes this game is sooo damn far in beta, frankly I get the feeling they rushed out of beta for legal and or inter-corporate wrangling reasons. Unless A LOT changes in the next few builds I won't consider this out of beta until ps4 release.
That said some of the things that have been mentioned for the near future are sounding really promising, till we break them at least. |

eeeehhhhhhhhno I would say we got out of alpha a couple builds ago, there is always a lot of functionality missing in beta, its really only the core thats needed for beta and that wasn't there untill recently. |

Beta? No. This is a modern style app that is constantly changing. The distinction between beta and released has been blurred and is now mostly irrelevant. I just consider it a young troublemaker that hasn't settled down.

In my opinion if a game is marketed as an MMOFPS and doesn't come with PVP and PVE on release it is still in beta.
At least that's what I think, I'll only really see this game as properly released when PVE comes out. |

Too much core content is still missing. The fact that they still don't have a decent concept (and do note how I'm using the word 'concept') of Eve-Dust integration alone puts us in beta. If you lower the bar down to lobby shooter, you still can't ignore the missing classes which have serious effects on your use and spread of skillpoints.
Oh, and the PS3 hard-resets don't help. |

As long as I'm unable to pilot a giant robot, the game isn't ready for release.
Until CCP have actually finished developing the core content and mechanics of the game, it most definitely isn't ready for release. |

Yes and no. DUST 514 is a unique entity, the first of its kind on console. As another poster remarked, the border between its beta and launch is pretty blurred in this respect. I think of it more of a 'work in progress' rather than beta and I hope it stays like this for many years to come because that includes new content.

I understand the idea of "the game will always be in flux and changing." I know you can get a blurry line. If you were to look at WoW 1 year at release and look at it now, you can also say "Jeez, that game sure was in beta a long time!" I don't mean it like that. WoW or EVE have had things added. EVE didn't have most of the ship types they have now; release didn't even have Battleships! However, it was not stated as "battleships will be in the game at launch." There is also a difference between not having a type of ship out (Battleships, Tier 2 Ships, etc.) and not having Caldari Cruisers or Amarr Cruisers but having Minmatar and Gallente Cruisers.
"Young troublemaker that hasn't settled down yet"? I like that. It's a very cute way of looking at it.
And yes, thank the State, that it has come a long way since beta. Remember getting caught on doorways because the hitbox was 20% larger than the graphical display? The game is also more optimized, though still not really perfect. I remember watching the Twitch EVE Con stream how it took 4 minutes to get into the game and it will now only take 70 seconds. Improvement is great.

every time I deploy with blue dots I just don't feel like trying because every time I do it, I get beat down by 16 red dots while 15 blue dots jerk off in the corner. |
