Corrupted Files wrote:So I've had my account for a while but due to being away for 3 weeks at a time for work, and having a family to take care of when I'm home, I haven't really had much time to play. I just recently learned that I had to activate my passive SP gain on this character and thus have lost out on months of passive SP.
How much SP is required to be even moderately competitive, and how does one go about making some money to buy all this expensive gear? I think I have around 600,000 isk right now but any time I run anything that costs me money, I just end up losing it and going negative for cash flow each game.
I've been doing a lot of reading on the skills and I'm thinking that I'm just going to spend points into skills that add stats to all my suits instead of trying to specialize right now, and keep getting my face smashed in in these starter fits to make some money, but its hard to even think of buying something to test when its so expensive and I'm only really earning around 100k per match.
Any and all help would be appreciated. Thank you. Smart, but there's 3 ways to spread your skill points in order to many any suit good.
#1 is to put it in the dropsuit itself, pick a specific dropsuit type, max it out, and then you get a damn good permanent bonus to whatever suit of that type you use, I did this first but that's because I had like 3 million to drop (it takes around 3.7 million to get something like minmatar assault suits to level 5)
#2 is to put it into dropsuit upgrades, specifically armor, shields, dropsuit PG and CPU, and speed, giving a permanent boost (and access to good modules and giving you the room to put them on the suits) to all of the core systems, this is by far the most time consuming and expensive, to get all skills in dropsuit upgrades to maximum it costs 21 million, without equipment skills it's 16, if you avoid things like biotics and some shield or armor module training then it might come down to about 10 million.
#3 is weapons, find a weapon you like and get the core skills with it up, procifiency, rapid reload, etc. if you were to get operation to 5 and all second tier weapon training to 3 (good enough) it will cost around 1.5-2 million, this will make any basic gun about as good as a high leveled one, without the extra cost in money.
Eventually you want all 3 of these, but i'm at about 25 million and I'm still not done, so my advice would be to find a gun that you like, Maybe make alternate characters and put all of their points into a specific gun type and try it out for a bit. Once you find one that you like, get it into working condition, put 1 point into it, 3 at the most, just enough so you can use it, you can get your aiming up, learn about the gun itself. If you can be good with a crappy gun, you're going to be great with a decent gun.
Once you have that, start working on the suit, and then work on getting armor and shields up, put points into engineering and electronics to give yourself more room on your suits, and modify as needed to take care of any obstacles you may encounter.
Some people have suggested, instead of going defense and core to go all damage, get damage modifiers and weapon skills and be a glass cannon, idk how this works but might be worth a try, will probably cost you some isk though.
To get into a condition where you might feel like you're functioning and contributing, when you're not considered a "noob" anymore, probably between 5-8 million SP, until then you will probably need to put up with some torture. With boosters this could probably be done in about 3 months, without them...longer. If it becomes too tough and annoying for ya there's no need to rage quit, just keep in on the back burner for a while, I have an alternate account collecting passive SP that I rarely use and even he is at about 5.5 mil now.
This game requires alot of studying and adapting but more than anything it requires patience, this game is not friendly to new players right now and I hope that changes soon but until then the plan is to just tough it out.
P.S. right now armor is king, the combat rifle is badass if you're a good shot, smg is also good if you don't want to spend alot of cash, running logistics and not worrying about your kill/death ratio is viable and very rewarding (good combat medics are loved!), and find the leaked info on the infantry dropsuit skill changes and plan accordingly, the next update should be very interesting.
Amarr = Armor and shield tanking, laser weaponry (good against shields, crap against armor) Gallente = Armor tanking, plasma weaponry (short range, tilted towards shield damage) Caldari = Shield tanking, rail weaponry (long range, tilted towards armor) Minmatar = lowest armor and shields but good speed, projectile weaponry (medium range, tilted towards armor) and explosive weaponry (area of effect, crap against shields, destroys armor).
Lemme know if you have any questions, been around for a while and I make sure to keep well informed.
