Better question: who here purchased anything from the ingame store in the last 2 months?

Better question, is CCP making any money?
Chances are that they pay Sony to have it on the PS store.

I'm pretty sure Sony could care less about whether this game succeeds or fails. Your question would be a valid one to CCP though. I have concerns about the game failling less because of combat design and more because of their lack of things to actually sell to make money. Where are the customizables? Where are the vehicle and dropsuit skins? What about Merc quarter and corp HQ decorations?(Along with the ability to walk around in each others areas.) There are tons of things, that don't really affect the play of the game, which could be sold by CCP to folks with too much money, but for some reason they don't do it. I am hoping the new influx of players to Eve because of Dust is enough to keep them sated, because I fear the day the accounting department takes a look at the fiscal "redline" of Dust.

Me. I am the reason people can play games for free. I don't know the real numbers, but 90% of sales comes from less than 10% of the players. I run a 30 day active and passive sp booster always. When the tactical edition went on sale I bought that. I bought the armored pack - whoops. I got a bpo AR somehow, I spend aurum to try new weapons. FW booster first week those came out, not doing that again. If they sale skins I will buy them, ditto name changes, race changes, and respecs. Hell I buy respect if they can figure out a way to sell that. I'd buy a pink pony to ride into battle on just for the lols.
And its still cheaper than beer at the bar or letting my wife loose at Walmart.

And its still cheaper than beer at the bar or letting my wife loose at Walmart. exactly. There's a difference between allowing the customer fun options or forcing a customer to pay. Spend Aurum for every time you die, not cool. Spend Aurum for skins, decorations, name changes etc, is both optional and fun for those who are into that. I would buy 20 BPO's of the same standard suit if each of those BPO's came with different color schemes, slightly different designs, logos, names etc.
I would spend Aurum to change my name, or to customize a face instead of just this helmet. I would pay Aurum to get a new bed in my merc room, change the lighting, and add a lamp or two and some nice wall paper.
I would pay Aurum for a respec.
I would not spend Aurum for expendable "new" suits when a couple of games later I have enough sp and isk to buy those same suits. I hate to sound like such a b**** because I love CCP, I really do. If I could play Eve, I would. But the truth is right now I don't really have a reason to spend money and I worry, because as much as making a video game is about passion, those developers have to pay bills and raise families.

Better question: who here purchased anything from the ingame store in the last 2 months? Sony probably gets royalties, but that isn't the issue. Sony makes money with it's own products.
- Sony brought disc based gaming to consumers with the playstation one, others tried before it but Sony got it right.
- Sony brought online gaming and the first HDD to consoles in the PS2
- Sony brought Bluray and a cell processor to rival Risc processors with the PS3.
- Sony perfects cloud based gaming with Playstation NOW. With the PS4
- Sony leaves its body behind and evolves into an energy based lifeform.
You see? Sony makes its own money and everything else is to draw in consumers.

I'd rather CCP focus on gameplay content ATM. There is a huge laundry list of to-do items before we are "out of beta." Boosters will always be the primary revenue stream for this game, and they only have a limited amount of time to turn this game around. The income gains from selling pretty suits to a small handful of players won't outweigh the potential income of getting a positive growth in the playerbase and selling boosters--at least in the shorter term.
Maybe in 12-18 months (if DUST is in good shape) they can start to explore ways to extort extra cash from their players through vanity items. I think this game will need at least 10x the playerbase to make such efforts worth while though.

I'd wager that the recent promotions like "Buy Aurum get Omega Boosters" followed by "All skill boosters 50% off" put a good spike in CCP sales.
Honestly, with how production is going, I wouldn't be worried. Since Uprising, the rate of production has only gone up which to me indicates that they are spending more and more money on this. Why would CCP increase how much money they are spending if the game was struggling financially? Of course, all just speculation.
The thing with F2P games is a lot of people don't pay a dime, but there are also a good chunk of people who pay way more than the standard $60 for a game.

I agree, I'd rather they worked on gameplay, but they won't get the chance if CCP isn't making money. Junk like I mentioned seems a pretty easy way to make some cash. It would just take one guy to start coordinating new color schemes for existing models and sticking them in the store.

I go on and on in a 1 man fight against Overpriced micrtransactions across the internet in hopes that people will see my POV about how micrtransactions and dlc are ruining video games. Then to read someone talking about how there should be MORE stuff tocharge real money for literally nothing boils my blood. I understand that F2P devs need to make money. But they do not give you your money's worth. That goes for this and every other F2P game with micrtransactions. It is those that support/encourage/defend it that are helping devs dig deeper and deeper into our wallets. Here is a question. Would you buy a game off the shelf, a typical video game for $500.00? |

LOL @ anyone who thinks this game is going to be around in 10 years. Unless CCP wants to take a huge loss for over half a decade then sure. Possibly feasible if they want to use the EVE Online surplus, HOWEVER, EVE has no direct competition. Once Star Citizen releases lets see how much money its making after a year. |

I have hundreds and I mean hundreds of Aurum AR's . I have more Pyrus than CEOPYRUS himself . I have a hundred Aurum Ck prototype suits . I bought the Tactical Edition only to put it on a alt that I ended up deleting like a dope . Tried to buy another but they didn't let me . Bought the pack with the tanks only to not use it yet but I will soon , that's my second one of those .
I wish I could have taken advantage of that 70% sell on aurum that they had but that had to be the week that I was broke .
I bought two boosters during the 50% off because I just don't play like I use to so it makes no since to buy boosters . Didn't buy boosters that often anyway .
Maybe when the racial suits come out and they nerf the DPS on all the AR's and address the lag and why this game is causing the " fatal " signal and crashing some PS3's then that will change so I guess I just won't play like I use to anymore .
Except for the racial .
When the market comes out , I'm your man for Aurum AR's ... half price , might even go buy two and get a third free .
We get a respec I won't need them anymore . Going strictly Mimi and Caldari weapons .
Future Caldari Heavy so watch out for this Sumo Shinobi with a Caldari HMG .
