Right now players are swamped with hundreds of systems, in dozens of constellations in numerous regions, fought over by dozens of different corporations and factions. There is so much that it all gets ignored, leaving players feeling completely disconnected from the New Eden universe.
I'd like to see Dust public battles fought in a small number of wars that are going on at any particular time.
Probably only three or four wars would be active at once, and each would run from anywhere between a week and a month. Each war would be between 2 NPC corps, and would be fought in a single constellation in a single region.
When a war starts or ends there should be a short news article about it, published on the Dust web site, on the forums here, and hopefully in-game as well.
I believe this simple change would dramatically increase the feeling of immersion in New Eden, and possibly therefore help with player retention.

Or maybe lore people follow and give a **** about.
Edit: Anyway, perhaps more connections would be needed, like contracts involving true power could dictate when and were incursions happen in New Eden.

Lol, you are full of sarcasm, spite, and vitriol. I like you. But we're stealing this thread.
However, I have a new question for the OP. How would these matches sapwn?
Only spawn in these "warzones?" Spawn mostly in the warzones, depending on demand? Or would they just be news articles of a few battles that someone may have participated in?
Also, would they replace/mostly replace the current Pub match system of random corps and systems?

Also, would they replace/mostly replace the current Pub match system of random corps and systems? It is a very minor change to the current pub match system. Still random NPC corps, and random systems, but the pool from which battles are selected is a small subset of the total available at any particular time. Players don't get to choose sides, or where they are fighting.
One of the key elements of the proposal is that it should be easy to implement; another is that it should have no significant impact on actual gameplay (so no need to worry about balance or exploits).

Damn, that's really good actually.
That info screen that you get when you log into your character? It should show the current sides fighting and who's winning/losing. Should also show who was the last winner.
Shield regeneration bonus for Gallente Assault is about as useful as Sharpshooter for Nova Knives.

If it were down to me I'd keep it as simple as possible at first, and then iterate on it it with features like this afterwards, but absolutely a good enhancement.

Apologies for the thread necro, but I was wanting to refer back to this in a new post and realised I hadn't addressed this point before I let the thread lapse.
Yes, we absolutely need to provide players with a lot of information about this. I see quite a few avenues for this that hopefully don't require a lot of dev time.
* The existing New Eden World News pages. * Evelopedia articles * A (locked?) chat channel for announcements and NPC roleplaying by the CCP community team * In-game mails sent by CCP to everyone subscribed in the above chat channel
With only a small amount of dev time I'd imagine they can add a tab to the "what's new" screen for this.
