Hi all,
For those of you who wish to know my position on cloaking, here is a link to a post I made regarding its proposed piece of equipment and it's effect on snipers (see post 117):
My Position on the Addition of Cloaking
For the record, I'm a dedicated sniper.
Also, I support the move to not allow using a weapon while cloaked. I believe we should have to de-cloak, equip a weapon, then use the weapon.

now here is what I like about it.
first it will require an equipment slot so heavy snipers won't have this advantage.
second it ends as soon as you fire a sniper shot, so assuming it has a high CD, you can really spam it, it will be useful for lining up a shot on a counter snipe and getting away from a counter sniper, this benefits mobile snipers.
finally it gives an alternative to the tank sniper, atm the tank sniper is nearly indestructible, they can be brought down but it's far from easy if they are built right.
with this piece of tech I will likely need to sacrifice some of that ehp to fit the invis on.
as for balance, cloaks will be able to be used against you as much you use it, once they pin you down a sniper will be able to cloack and line up his shop on your snipe position without even worrying about being counter sniped. or maybe that scout will simply walk up to your position while stealth and kill you in the red line.
I respect your position.
1. I'm a bit worried about the further abuse of the redline by camping snipers. Right now counter-sniping is a great counter. It will be much tougher with cloaking.
2. Camping on those very high towers where you can't be counter-sniped standing in the middle of the roof while your cloak cools down.
3. Abuse by the heavy sniper as you point out.
4. The hyper fast, invisible scout sniper.
5. Us mobile snipers will be much harder to hunt down. We won't be within range of most scanners.
6. A sniper will be much easier to resupply because I can pop a nanohive in plain sight and sit on it. It will be hard to tell if the spot on your reticle turns red for a cloaked sniper or for the same colored, larger nanohive.
6. I won't need lots of EHP if you can't see me.

Please see my above post #5. These are my concerns.

Munch That's a problem with the weapon not the ability, same could be said of camping with shotguns or NKs, any weapon that does high damage will be effective.
The difference is that I can sit far outside your retaliation range.
I can also perfectly line myself up on a hacking panel, which I can't really do with the current layout of these areas with respect to sniping perches (unless I want to stand in the open).

Rasatsu wrote:As a suggestion (based on having known Trevor for years) is that more important than running on an issue-only platform, you should instead focus on process and how you will help CCP move the game in a productive direction.
That is to say; "I dislike feature X for reason A" == BAD, "In-game I specialize in X and Y playstyles, and I can help CCP understand the concerns of ours" == GOOD.
Please don't misunderstand the intent of this thread. It is a simple statement on my position in the forum where cloaking is a very active topic.
I have a much more extensive breakdown on my position on various other issues, specific directions I think this game needs to go in and my approach to CCP in this thread: Munch for CPM 1 Campaign Headquarters
Another thread in which I've made similar statements: My CPM Allication in General Discussions forum
I invite you to have a look.
