Introduction
Wow it's been a long time, since I last wrote either the Attack Methana or Shotgun Hills. But now I am back and I'm gonna drop another scout fitting. WARNING: I am level 5 scout, level 5 range amplification, Proficiency 3 Assault Rifle, Proficiency 3 Scrambler Pistol, Level 4 Light Weapon Op., etc. I have plenty of SP therefore I can fit more liberally.
Down to business. ZiwZih back in Chromosome turned me onto the Tactical Assault Rifle, in the Shotgun Hills thread. I fell in love with all the Assault Rifle variants in chromosome and I still use the variants more often than the actual Assault Rifle. I am well versed with the Breach Assault Rifle, secondly the TAR (I got my groove back not long ago), and lastly the Burst Assault Rifle. I respect these weapons and among some of the very few who continue their legacy in use. It takes something else to use the Underground Weapons and I hope you be that something else.
The Fit Template
+[Scout G/1 Series]+
GLU-5 Tactical Assault Rifle [Lw] KLO-1 Scrambler Pistol [S] Locus Grenades [g] Drop Uplink [E] Enhanced Reactive Plate (Armor) [Ls] Complex Range Amplifier [Ls] Enhanced Shield Extender [H] Basic Light Weapon Damage Modifier [H]
The idea is to have a self sufficient sleuth with ranged capabilities. The GLU-5 is essential for ranged combat. As a scout you are operating with lower-than-norm amounts of Hit Points. Use the GLU-5 to defeat enemies before they get too close for comfort. If they do, be prepared to bring out the KLO-1 Scrambler Pistols. Do not underestimate the scrambler pistol, it is by far one of the most versatile, ranged, and powerful sidearms.
The Reactive Plate is there for a minor HP boost while enabling you to slowly regenerate lost armor. As a scout you don't have much to begin with so you are not so bad off. The Complex Range Amplifier is the cherry of this fitting. As a level 5 scout and level 5 range amplified mercenary, this module pushes my passive scan out to 50+ meters. That is 5 times the run-of-the-mill passive radius. Not only that but the Scout innately has a precision of 45 so you will pick up undampened suits with no skill in precision at all. NOTE: it would be a good idea to have some precision because dampened medium frames and low-level scouts DO exist.
The Enhanced Shield Extender offers just what the Reactive plate does, a self regenerating HP pool. Don't be afraid to use shield extenders, their shield delay effects are barely felt on scout suits do to insanely high shield regeneration speeds. The Basic damage module is there to give you an advantage. All the medium frames tank. It would be pointless to fight tankers with a tanked scout. It does not compute until prototype so well. So the damage mod is there to give the TAR more OOMPH!, even if by a little.

I hope you found this informative.
This fit is very advanced so you may need to downgrade modules, like the Shield extender or Reactive plates, range amplifier or scrambler pistol.
I've been using the template of this fit for a while now and found good success with the latest variation so I have published the latest variation as the template. 2 Survival modules, and 2 flavor modules, each in a high and low slot.

Do you find yourself attacking targets outside or inside of your scanning range the most?
I have a very similar setup and I found that I never engage anything outside of 40 meters. If I do the enemy retaliates and I'm forced to retreat or die quickly. That's why I choose a GEK and some more damage amplification in exchange for slightly less tanking capability. I try to kill people before they get to look at me.
Coincidentally I found that light suits don't make a lot of sense on open maps. There are just way too many charge sniper rifles out there to bother. On such maps I think medium suits are much better off. |

On such maps I think medium suits are much better off. That I can not give a definitive answer to. I mean it's really dependent on the situation. If I have to cross open spaces I would rather stay outside passive scan range. But if I someone moves into my passive, I hide and let them get as close as possible and past me. Then I come in behind them with the pistol. If I am going to use the TAR it's usually outside my passive range or near the fringes. I try to stay outside other rifle ranges if it's a mutual engagement. If they don't see me I get to like 50 meters, unload some TAR and finish the hunt if necessary in CQC with the pistol.
But most of the time I just try to work with whatever happens at whatever range.

After further look into the matter I have determined that I will produce more accurate timing records when I shoot so I can give a better tip to yall. I currently think that my numbers for Shooting the TAR at X meters vs. Timing of shots are a little conservative, I think you can get a good couple more rounds in safely at longer ranges.
I'm starting to think this because I recently took the TAR up to a higher perch and safely looked down on my enemies and got considerable kills from the roof. I've been doing this and it increases the range gap but the TAR can perform really well I will give you all new estimates when I can but for now I'll throw out what's next upcoming on this guide:
Tact. Scout Perches: Finding perches and a checklist of signs of good perches. Using perches as well and equipment in combination. Tact. Scout on the Field: Advice on being on the ground in these open area maps Urban Tact. Scout: Advice on using Tact. scouts in the city/complexes.
As you can tell it's just going to be some stuff on using the Tact. Scout in different environments and some variations of the template to suit the environments.

Learning Coalition. Who invited THOSE losers? *checks corp tag* Ah.
Anyways, Bojo, looks like a good build you got here. I think when 1.8 hits (assuming there's a respec), I'll check this out. Most of my points are going into Scouts. The rest... I'm going to get at least one level in everything, but not before Core Skills. I just want to see how these changes are.
My only concern is, you said to hunt snipers in the build. Is that not what the Ranger Scout does? :/
EDIT: Nevermind, I see that someone pointed it out that a TAR was a better anti-sniper weapon. :P

Ah, got it. I'm going to look at this fit when I get back into DUST (1.8 will probably be the point I log back in, but for now I teach through EVE), because I used to love the hell out of the T-AR, and the Bu-AR. I used to use the Bu-AR almost exclusively. I dunno what the fuss is about, it's not a terrible weapon, if you can find the right spot to touch it in.

I like this guide, but the one thing I can't fathom is why you're using the Tac AR instead of a scrambler rifle. The optimal gap is huge, the charged-shot alpha is perfect for scouts, and the heat generation isn't a problem when you have scout mobility and stealth. Can you explain?
Edit: Also, no stable drop uplink over the standard one? |

Bojo, I have a question I really need answered.
Should I continue with LAVs, or should stop trying for them and start going towards scout?
I really enjoy scouting, it is the one thing I always come back to. Either way I'm skilling into it, so this question just determines how long until I can get it.
I feel like once I get the scout though, I'm never going to use my LAV again, so is it worth skilling into?
It just seems like skilling into LAVs is a waste of time and a hopeless endeavour, so your input would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: I think I've convinced myself to go scout, so unless you have very strong objections I don't think I can be convinced to do otherwise.

I understand scouting is becoming mainstream (This is Snow Turtle btw), but I really enjoy it, as I stated above. I will definitely be speccing into LAV's, but that is going to happen later in the future. For now, I will just get my core upgrades up and prepare for my beloved Caldari Scout(Been waiting for this since I started playing this game).

Logibro has confirmed damage nerf to RR, and said that was not all that is getting hit. This has led me to assume that all rifles, with the addition of a few other weapons, are going to get hit.
Hopefully this damage nerf is the only thing that hits the CR, but if it gets hit in another way that does not ruin it I won't mind.
I don'know if you plan on taking me as a scouting apprentice now, but I do not think that is very necessary. I was a pretty good minja but this whole rifle-scout thing is kinda weird to me, so I may need some simple assistance.
Talk to you eventually.

This corner is an amazing little scout nook. It overlooks the outpost entrance at 12-13, E (Entrance A) and at 12-13, F (Entrance B), giving more focus on entrance B because it is closer. It is right beside the objective, just a stone's throw away so you can hop onto the nullcannon and pop your pistol at some fools. If you are standing at this perch looking at Entrance B head on, you have somewhere around 40 meters of clearance between you and you have LOS over entrance A as well but it's a good 50+ meters out so most assault rifle damage is negated to degree. But as long as some allies are defending the objective area, Entrance A people will not prioritize you until you start shooting, but at least you'll get the significant jump.
The corner has some guards so you are offered a shield to hide behind when you need to. A tank popped onto the landing pad and started shooting me after I had firmly defended the entrances for a while upon first discovery. I simply crouched and backpedaled towards the pipes. Do not stand directly on the corner, be a good few paces back from both sides so that when you crouch you don't accidentally expose some hitbox area.
However (still looking at entrance B) to your right down low are two flights of stairs down to the street. This is you're underbelly, monitor it well. The Tact. Scout fit I gave in the OP is what I still use now. So the complex range amplifier really helped alert me when enemies were down on the street. If they climb the first flight of stairs, pull out the KLO and set yourself between boxes. If they're still down on the street and further, across the street, use the TAR.:
Method
Set you're ADS sensitivity rather high for the tactical assault rifle. So you get the quicker response but maintained accuracy that you want from the Tactical Assault rifle at those shorter ranges. If you have it right, you'll be close enough in range that you can pull the trigger as fast as you want and get the maximum DPS out of it. At those closer ranges you need to compete and at maximum RPM, the TAR out dps' (damage per second) the Assault Rifle.
I would recommend getting rapid reload in your assault rifle if you want to prioritize the TAR. It only has an 18 shot clip and you have 300 shots, that's a lot of reloading. The normal AR only has 5 clips. This has over 16 clips.
Down low to the left is a connecting path funneled between to blocks that leads to the stairs to your perch. It is a really nice pistol range because there's not a whole lot of strafing room and it looks down upon it's targets, making headshots that much easier. I would consider it a vulnerable point, but it's within scanning radius so I use that extra alarm time to line up shots down that path before they get there and watch them approach on passive scan and open up the fight with your counterattack, ironically.
Weak Spots. The Path mentioned above. Entrance B sidepath that goes behind a block. It is within scanning range though. Pipes Behind. Heaven forbid a scout get behind you from the building. Street. As long as you visually check it in reasonable patterns you can be fine.

Basic variant of AR, pistol replaced with KN, uplinks replaced with scanners(to ensure I know what to expect). Note that I only use this fit if I have already placed my uplinks via my go to fit (although not great for combat it excels in manipulating the flow of battle) Why run active scanner and a range amp? Its fairly contradictory To use both unless you have some super scanning fetish.
1) This grants me intel in-between scans as I don't spam. 2) Don't actually use a range mod on this fit (forgot to mention that) but I do on a spate fit which utilizes a flux scanner.
Full Stealth fit from left>right counter clockwise:
shield extender x2 (Reduced threat from falls) AR (aggression if necessary) KN (Self defense and tactical kills) Flux nades (Counter equipment, scares tanks, debufs infantry) Quantum scanner (Intel gathering) Profile dampener (stealth) Codebreaker (espionage)
(After 1.8) Cloak field (Stealth) 2nd Profile dampener (Stealth)
^ Talk about stealth tanked lol
