Introduction: Not a normal bow, bow in dust514 shot's arrow powered high voltage or tied with high explosive or even anti matter ( I saw anti-matter in eve on some kind of missile), which are very useful to nomal dropsuit, powered arrow can disable light target's sheild by nearly 100%, exploing arrow can distroy target's armor completely, and anti-matter is an AV weapon which can distroy LAV completely but doesn't work on HAV so much that it's armor is too thick for arrows.
Types: Powered bow---can shot powered arrow but not exploing arrows in case of self exploing(the bow will power the explosive) Compound bow---can shot exploing arrows(Wooden//Iron/Steel , give defferent damage and PG) Large bow(AV)---the only bow can shot anti-matter arrows which have safety system which limit the ability of shotting due to safety and humane(no one want to be shotted by anti-matter), unlock when detected vehicles nearby. Hybird bow---can shot both powered arrows and exploing arrows that we can't tell how it works due to commercial secrets
Numbers/Information: Type:light Ariming time (only for zooming, longer for better accuracy):5S Shot per secord(reload+shot, 0.5 for each):1 Damage:250 for powered arrows( -90& to armor for balance) and exploing arrows(-90% to sheild for balance), 1000-2000(tier) for anti-matter arrows(ADV and PRO bow gives exter damage) Clip size:1 Charge up time:1.5S only powered bow need to charge up Max capacity of arrows:>25(item-arrow holder and increase number of max arrow by 20-60(tier)) CPU:0 for nomal bows, 50 for powered and 100 for hybrid and large PG:2 for nomal, 5 for powered, 8 for hybird, 12 for large
More information of types: Powered bow give 25% extra damage to sheild(+10% per tier) Iron bow give 15% extra damage and +2 PG needed(1PG more needed per tier and NOM too) Steel bow give 25% extra damage(+2PG more needed per tier and NOM too) All bow give 10% extra damage per tier
Skills: MAIN:'Bow'--- unlock abillity of use different tier of bow,NOM for level1, ADV for level3 and PRO for level 5 'Room for arrows'--- +10% max capacity of arrows per level (works with item) 'Skill of shotting bow'--- -10% of time needed for shot an single arrow per level 'learn of bow and arrows'--- +5% damage per level 'arming'--- -10% of time needed for aiming(or zoom)

An ultra high-tech autoloaded crossbow would be more fitting... The bolts should have either EMP, Explosive, Penetrating, or Hybrid Charge tips. It could use ultra-high tension nanoweave strings along with a small railgun accelerator for maximum damage.
I could see something like this being the Minmatar "Sniper Rifle".
Something like this:
Bolt Accelerator
Piercing Tips/ Manufactured by Six Kin Damage: 765 Fire Rate: 30 Rounds per Minute (it takes it 2 seconds to autoload and prepare a new bolt) DPS: 382.5 Magazine Size: 8 (24 bolts carried) Reload Speed: 4.50 Seconds 110% Armor Damage 85% Shield Damage (the slow moving projectiles gives shields extra time to ready for impact, thereby increasing resistance) ~No Explosive Qualities~
Hybrid Tips/ Manufactured by Ishukone
Damage: 415 Fire Rate: 30 Rounds per Minute DPS: 207.5 (330 including Blast Damage) Magazine Size: 10 (30 bolts carried) Reload Speed: 4.5 Seconds Armor Damage: 100% Shield Damage: 100% Blast Radius: 0.12 meters Blast Damage: 245
Explosive Tips/ Manufactured by Freedom
Damage: 210 Fire Rate: 20 Rounds per Minute (The bulkier bolts take a bit extra time to get loaded) DPS: 70 ( 210 including Blast Damage) Magazine Size: 3 (12 bolts carried) Reload Speed: 4.0 Seconds Armor Damage: 120% Shield Damage: 80% Blast Radius: 1.5 Meters Blast Damage: 425
EMP Tips/ Manufactured by Allotek
Damage: 0 Fire Rate: 60 Rounds per Minute DPS: 0 (1200 to Shields) Magazine Size: 12 (36 bolts carried Reload Speed 4.5 Seconds Armor Damage: 0% Shield Damage: 200% Blast Radius: 2.5 Meters Blast Damage: 600 ~Does full vehicle damage~ ~Since it cannot kill, and takes up a light weapons slot, I think making it a shield stripping assist-machine is fair~

How about the "Nova Really Big Rock?" It's a heavy weapon that Sentinal suits pick up and carry around. If they drop it on your head it does 2000 damage. It would glow, so that would make it futuristic.
Just another idea for bringing stone-age weapons into the New Eden universe.

As much as I think it's a novel idea the practicality is that once you get past certain draw strengths on bows more of the potential energy stored from drawing the bow goes into producing heat or making noise etc than it does to accelerating the projectile... And if you've ever seen a slow-mo of an arrow in flight lets just say its a wobbly mess that I'm pretty sure any shield / armor capable of dealing with a 7500m/s railgun slug or a pistol that shoots intense bursts of microradiation powerful enough to cause metal to catch fire (seriously google scorch / conflagration ammo crystals) would more or less safely laugh at the relatively primitive technology of the bow and arrow. |

And clubs! Now with racial specifics! Plasma club - fully automatic, 5 hits per second. Rail club - slower swing rate but the club itself is really, really long. Scrambler club - able to do a charged swing. Combat club - delivering hits in short bursts of multiple swings.
No. Keep bows in Skyrim, imo.

I didn't know the figures but that's what I was thinking pretty much and you need alot of magnets to keep it 'stable' I believe.
I'm actually good at archery and as much as I like the idea, I just dont think its worth the time considering the weapons we already have.

I think your ammo ideas are too powerful. Instead, make it a scout weapon and concentrate on utility, for example;
- Normal Arrow - Tungsten Carbide Arrowheads
- Tracker Darts - Will show the person or vehicle on the HUD/Map for 30 seconds.
- Grappling Hook - Self-Explanatory, fire it at the second floor railing and zip yourself up.
- Flux Arrow - An arrow equipped with a small EMP charge, destroys equipment in a 1 meter radius

I don't know if the bows are a good idea but I do like the fact that people are thinking about crossbows. Bows will not be good because of the projection and short range. I like crossbows because of the long range and they could add to it like explosive arrows and stuff like that.
bows= bad idea
crossbows= good idea |

To extend on my previous poste, I like the idea but the execution leaves much to be desired.
1) To fit into DUST you would need 1 bow type weapon. You would then make the racial variants for it. You would have Short bow, long bow, composite bow, and crossbow I would assume.
2) The bow wouldn't have multiple arrow types as that would be considered an attachment (this is ok once attachments are implemented). So instead each bow weapon would have it's own ammo type. I like this idea:
Akdhar Saif wrote:

Although due to such extreme limitations it may have to be set as a sidearm.
Or you could stick with racial ammo
Explosive Short bow(min) Nova Tipped Composite bow(Cal) Plasma Charge longbow(Gal) (The charge is activated by your target's shield. Holding the shoot button allows you to activate it yourself) Laser Crossbow (Am) (every shot is like a charged scrambler rifle shot but there is no charge time or overheat)
In ^this case the weapon can remain in the light slot. (Would've given the caldari the crossbow but I couldn't figure out how to make a hand bow work with laser ammo.)
That's my 0.02 ISk and again, love the idea of bow weapons.

You must realize, we are in the 240th century. the year is around 23,000. What use would a bow be? A survival tool, surely, but we have disposable clones. Long term survival means nothing to us. And a bow isn't something you can just pick up and use proficiently. It takes years of practice and training to hit targets beyond 30m with any degree of reliability, whereas guns can be deadly at hundreds of meters in a few weeks.
So a bow is only as useful to us as immortal mercenaries in how immediately deadly it is. Remember, we aren't dealing with olden armors. we have tritanium armor layers with energy shields. A bow would have to be immensely strong to get through all this with any degree of reliability. So a bow would be very unlikely to be implemented.
Now silencers and guns made for stealth, these would easily exist in the Eve universe, especially amongst the Minmatar. But as for a bow and arrow, the technology is millennia out of date for the level of technology we use.
Best PVE idea I've seen.
