It could be much much better and sometimes it's community's fault. Dust obviously can't mix an RPG (customization, skills etc) with an FPS. You just can't. FPS players want their own skills to be rewarded. RPG players want their character skills to be rewarded.

Let's pretend:
If Dust 514 were simply a BF clone, but with all the Eve interaction and a deep customization (and no, I'm not talking about skills, skill points etc) it would be great.
If Dust 514 were a FFXIV clone would be great too, bringing skills, skill points, officer/PRO weapons/suits, PVE and possibly open world/s.
The problem lies here: what is Dust 514? How can we define it? An MMOFPS? No, not really. An MMORPG? Neither. An MMORPS? Doesn't even exist, simply because the two are irreconcilable.
When I first started playing Dust during the very first period (beta weekends) i was so hyped: "gigantic wars", "MAG play style with much deeper customization", "purpose every battle", "very large scale battles". I know, when you say: "Oh, look this game has a wonderful connection with another famous game called Eve, where you mine things, declare huge wars, build things etc and you fight for those corporation who bla bla bla" Yeah, sounds great! But the truth is another one:
First off, Eve-Dust link is merely visible, but, hey, it is a shooter and you want to shoot things. Wrong, you have to skill here, here and there before you can be competitive, even for pubs.
Okay then, let's grind SPs and get a full proto fit. Let's play some end-game! Planetary conquest. You go there, spawn, reach the city and then just chill watching your game showing you wonderful landscape pictures, 1 frame per second.
It could reach a "10" (mind, for me, 10 is Final Fantasy X) but it just won't. Maybe there are too few people working on it, maybe MMOFPS and MMORPG are really two completely separate worlds, irreconcilable. But after 1 year and a half, I'm still hoping.

My thoughts exactly. 7 for now (above average giving me more enjoyment than others in the genre), with a potential 9.9 (don't believe in 10's, their supposed to be the ultimate experience) when the core content is 100% (heavies, scouts, pilots and vehicles for all) and something is done about this lag and the collision detection issues. |

Dust has come a long way since beta, some action movie scenes have played out in my career as a dropship pilot. All in all dust gives a unique gameplay experience that no other game has. It's young and needs time to develop but is an a!azing game to play. |

My mediocre final score does not reflect the complex reality of the game:
DUST has some of the best things and worst things I've ever found in a videogame.
So I have to put together an immense variety of criteria, sum them up and divide.
The result is a 5.
Edit: Those few awesome things are what keeps you playing even when you don't want to. That's the reason of the love-hate relationship.

If played thoughtfully with reasonable squadmates, it really shines.
The confusing mass of constantly changing rules and realities makes the newbie experience maddening.
Ill give it a 6 for now.
