The basic idea is that players fill in a single GÇ£contract matchingGÇ¥ form that specifies the kinds of battles theyGÇÖd like to play, and then hit GÇ£queue upGÇ¥. The servers then take everyoneGÇÖs contract matching requests and generate battles to fill as many of the requests as possible. This one form would cover public and faction war, ambush/skirmish/domination, different team sizes and different levels of GÇ£challengeGÇ¥. This is a slight change to the current system, and gives the servers much more information to base battle generation on, while also giving players more scope to balance getting into battle quickly against getting into the right battle.
The first option is which regions (US, EU, AP, OC) you want. Then, which factions to fight for: Caldari, Amarr, Gallente, Minmatar or GÇ£PublicGÇ¥. Next, the range of team sizes, from 4 per side up to max (currently 16 per side). After that, which security levels for public contracts, from 1.0 down to 0.5; more on this later. Also, which game modes: skirmish, ambush and/or domination.
With the contract matching information for all the queued-up players, the servers generate battles to fill as many as possible, as quickly as possible. The option to have smaller battles (fewer than 16 players per side) facilitates battles for less common options.
While queued for a battle, the game shows you details of battles that are starting, but that which your contract match request filtered out. This shows players what options are popular, and hence are more likely to get them into a battle faster. When filling out the contract matching form, the game could show what proportion of battles from the past couple of hours would have matched your current selection as well.
Now, about that security level thing. Each star system in New Eden has a security level; the proposal is that the security level affects the battles. ISK and SP payout is scaled from nothing at sec level 1.0 through to 100% at sec level 0.5. There are also restrictions on what gear can be used, whether pre-built squads are allowed, etc. for higher sec levels. New players can fight in 1.0 or 0.9 sec space, using starter suits but getting very little reward, then work up in sec level as they get more confident. The contract matching form lets you chose a range of sec levels, rather than one specifically.
