In light of a somewhat recent topic, I remembered when I was creating my character; painstakingly examining each faction and sub faction to figure what traits to give me persona. Only to find that did mean jack SH@% !
Seriously it could be as simple as Blah da blarg are proficient with machinery. Well then have equipment based skill require less SP or less PC and CPU. Could even make the buffs slightly better.
Something more drastic would be changing the mechanics of play. I've said this before those who have a background in some judo or whatever could have a bonus of stunning a player if they successfully pull of a melee from behind.
Doesn't have to be an urgent change but I think it's something we expected when we first with through or character creation process.

Umm, so what about all the caldari using amarr suits, what about all the minnie using the caldari suits? Your race is your heritage, your bloodline your legacy, it doesn't need it.

We specifically have the different races and bloodlines not have any major gameplay effect so that people are not inclined to pick one because it's the "OP" race. It is for the most part a purely aesthetic and lore based choice. The only thing it does in DUST is dictate what race your starter fit suits are (with some fitting differences due to the different slot layouts.

Now that we have each Race's Basic Weapon in the game, don't you think it's about time you Updated the Starter Fits to include a MLT variant of each Race's Basic Weapon ?

I think this is great. Why have the option to choose different bloodlines? Because by picking and choosing your character to be the one you want you are becoming more invested in that character. Why offer body customization options in MMO's? Or skin colors? Or hair color/styles, voices, clothing options etc.?
Because not everything has to be about making you better in game, some can be about who you want to be. I love the racial lines right now and feel like they're an important part of my Dust merc even though they do "nothing."
Now, I'm looking forward to when CCP adds vanity color schemes to our suits. ^-^ |

So much for "we want people to actually pick up the game and not give up in frustration". I can understand choosing a race, kind of. It's cosmetical. But why the hell are there sub-factions? They literally do not appear in the game outside of character creation. |

The subfactions are part of the greater Eve lore. It's just a context thing so you can pick a group that you prefer.
Also, it's very good that the races don't have any differences other than cosmetic. In Eve for the longest time the Caldari were the preferred race by players because they started the game with a few skills related to missiles, which are the best weapons for PVE purposes. It was just the barest advantage, a difference of maybe 4-5 days of training at the most, but people would just go for Caldari again and again. And ofcourse with that slight advantage came the hundreds of histrionic "OP race/ships/shoes" threads.
Dust doesn't need that. |

If you were in Beta you would remember the Artificer, Arbiter, Sentinel, and what-ever class had the AR and nanohives. Arbiters had sniper rifles unlocked and a little towards scouts and gear. Artificers had unlocked repair tools and basic SMG if I remember Sentinels had unlocked forge gun (or was it HMG?)

I think there are a couple things with regards to character backgrounds that could be included to help flesh out characters and wouldn't alter any power balances. One would be to include a player written background (like in Eve) where other players can look at other player's characters and read what they put in. Another is to start a player off at level 2 standings in the race they pick.
Just small things like that go a long way to add immersive elements without making anyone or any one faction OP.

Fair enough. Would probably devolve into something exploited. Haven't partaken in EvE and didn't realize it was tried already. The process does dictate which starter fit and merc pad your player resides and creating a balanced base would help ease into this shooter as it's different from others.

Then please let us change our race and bloodline at one point.
I picked Caldari when I started cause it was the first choice on the screen.
Now that I understand more in the game, I wanna RP as a Minmatar, but this dumb Caldari portrait is messing it up

I agree. It was impossible to see Minjas on the horizon, and that would easily be the race I'd pick to keep everything in line if I made my character today. Given the player base has a far better idea as to what is what, it would add an immediate depth to the game and it's players that doesn't exist now by letting us re-race (does that work lol?) our toons. Factional warfare would become a lot more fleshed out.

On that note, I'd like to give a shout out to my old post about adding a MLT Scrambler Rifle to the game to fit on Amarr Starter fits (merely adding PG consumption to a STD wouldn't work because the MLT suits wouldn't have the PG to fit the rifle as-is).
With FW in full-swing, there's also that "getting citizenship" through FW idea where high standings could provide a means of changing your portrait/quarters/starter fits or what-not.

How about a small, but noticeable, increase in faction standing gain for the race that you choose to come from? Nothing game breaking, but a little "perk" for being a native and fighting for the Home Cause.

From your merc quarters, you'd be able to go through the doors and enter an area dependant on which faction you chose. You'd meet all the other players of that faction in that area. The bloodline would also have some kind of influence. The second door would lead to corp environments.
The faction-specific environments would have functions depending on faction. Like, Minmatar could have knife fights or something, where you can pay for a few clones and then use them in duels. |
