Yes, I've tried the filthy Matari weapon with two complex damage mods, and by no means does it feel OP. If anything it feels very weak against shields as I expected. Even once in armor, the CR doesn't perform the way I really expected.
Can someone please point out how it is OP, or what feels OP about it?

Then again, Rail Rifle feels like a pulsing death ray.

To be honest I think it's pretty balanced, I can't think of a standard combat rifle with no damage mods wipe out a platoon. |

Same feeling here. To me, the CR feels like it's shooting marshmallows while the RR feels like it's shooting tungsten sabot rounds at Mach 5.

It's hard to believe but alot of people used some of their vehicle respec to max out the proficiency of their new guns as soon as they came out (the respec and rifles came on the same day if I remember). So keep that in mind too, it's hard to see these tiny facts and just ramble on how OP something is. |

I did know a few pilots in 1.6 that said they were speccing out into the new rifles, so there was probably a lot of proficiency 5s from the first few days.
I don't spend much time with my boots on the ground, but I always think the CR is OP until I get killed by an AR in optimal. The CR's DPS depends on how fast you can get those bursts out and I don't feel like the average player is dealing much more damage than an AR, however high the maximum DPS ceiling is. If the maximum DPS is too high and some players are abusing it, the nerf it needs is to it's maximum RoF.
I used a Proficiency 2 Assault Rifle in 1.6. My Proficiency 0 standard CR seems like it drops people faster if I'm really pumping the bursts out but a lot of times I'm either firing too slow or the enemy is a shield tank and it just feels weak.
Now, the RR always feels great to me. Currently only up to the ADV on this account but my alt has a few levels of Proficiency and the RR is a monster. I really like the Assault.

im one of those people who used the vehicle respec + saved SP to MAX out the combat rifle with 4mil poored into it.
i find that the ARs feel fairly balanced against each other right now with engagements being decided with skill and knowledge of each weapons strengths and weaknesses.
a rail rifle guy will lose to me if he lets me abuse his spool up time a scrambler guy will lose if i bait out the charged shot and get him to overheat a plasma guy will lose if he lets me use my high burst while playing peekaboo the same as i would against a rail rifle, or if i gan bait out a reload while conserving my own clip.
at extreme range the rail and scrambler hold the advantage as they should but i can plink shots and force themt o take cover to gain ground ont hem and retake the advantage.
it feels nice that all the rifles have their place, people arnt used to using the plasma rifle in its spot yet though so most old duvolle users are struggling to adapt to having to engage differently then pre 1.7 |

the Six kin in PC is the only place it gets OP. Majority of PC engagements are on letters or close to... most fights are medium to close range... and nothing in those ranges vs the six kin stands a chance. in Pub's where alot of people are just about the kill not progressing the map or game mode the range guns in general preform better.
The more peopels Aim Assist you can kep out of range of in pubs the better. in PC its all about the med-CQC. |

It's because you're doing it wrong.
It's like someone spamming the SR until it overheats, dying, and then saying that he doesn't understand how the SR is so good.
I need to make a video of how to properly use the weapon. Try timing your button presses to make the gun fire almost fully automatic, and use it at close-medium ranges instead of trying to snipe with it. If you try and use it like the SR (pressing the fire button as fast as possible), your burst speeds will be very irregular and you will have a hard time using the weapon (trust me, I had this problem when I first used it too).
In other words, slow down your fire rate and it will melt people, but it's a skill based weapon like the SR and not for everyone.

the 6 skin runs out of quick VERY quickly, you can beat it if you can dodge enough shots for it to run empty, its tricky and you DO NOT want to stand your ground against it....

That's true, I guess I haven't played against any good combat rifles users. Like you said, Strengths and Weaknesses are important, I know the Rail Rifle has low ammo and the scope/zoom in speed is very slow.

i practiced with the plasma burst Ar for about a month and a half in preperation for the combat rifles release :P so when i finally got it in my hands i was already used to it.
im a minmatar purist :P combat rifles SMGs and remote explosives :P

I tried using Combat Rifles, but I didn't have much success, so I switched over to Rail Rifles. I'm not good with an assault rifle either. As surprising as this sounds, I never touched the Assault Rifle operation on the skill tree.

I wount say it;s ot OP after using it ,it's lacking when you need range to count but it tears new holes in CQC with both variants.It's good close to mid range (1-60m) after that GL tracking moving targets with your pellet gun because RR beats it's mid range to long(60-75m+)

I love my CR. but somehow for the love of all that is holy, CCP have only been able to keep 2 of the 4 races balanced which are Minmatar and amarr, IMO.
ironically we both hate each other but were the only balanced races in the game

Minmatar assault suits not so balanced...
I would say better parity has been made between gallente and caldari... though armor being the "Flavor" of the last couple patches could be debatable to what has the upper hand currently. |

Well CCP went out of their way to say Short to Medium range.
I think some people are making too much about it because some good users are beasting in CQC when they thought that was only supposed to be AR range. - Still it goes through ammo so quick I dont see how people can come to that determination.
All the other rifles do better on ammo per clip and with the Rail and especially Scrambler you can be super economical if you are accurate and really destroy squads. |
