Since Mordu's Private trials Dust has had and continues to have immense potential, I dare go as far as to say that this potential rivals that of Eve Online during its very depressing infancy.
This potential that Eve had at birth would have amounted to nothing if not for the community. Dedicated players that stubbornly refused to let the game die when the vast majority stood by waiting for CCP to drive the last nail in the coffin and give up, while trying with all they could to steer CCP and Eve towards a brighter future, something that everyone can agree was a resounding success.
In my eyes, the CSM and CPM are a testament to this way of thinking, a handful of volunteers that remind CCP of their goals and to not simply give up because of others, but in a way that is not simply blind fanboying and ignoring issues and the opinions of the player-base, providing assistance to both players and developers when needed.
In my decade of playing Eve the CSM always appealed to me since its inception, but due to the age restriction and education I simply was not able to be a candidate. That did not deter me from discussing issues and ideas with many of the CSM over the years, Members such as Prometheus Exenthal, Elise Randolph, Seleene, Mangala Solaris and the current CPM (mainly; Jenza, Hans and Kain)
Recently a sizable portion of the community believes that both the CSM and CPM to have some form of corruption due to their members being part of a large corporation or alliance, only becoming a candidate to further their own goals. While I disagree that this is the case, I currently represent a corporation that has a grand total of 3 members: Me, me and me.
If elected, i will focus on being the middle man, a link between the players and CCP, easily contactable for anything and everything.

I don't think the CSM is corrupt because their members come from large groups. The size of the CSM allows members which live in varying parts of space, highsec, lowsec, nullsec, wormholes, etc. Nullsec representatives do surely, at times, focus their goals on nullsec player interests, but they're balanced out by the other CSM reps who are invested in other areas. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, and I'd argue that the CSM members are indeed interested in improving the game as a whole, more than just for their own groups interest. And I don't think you can have a corrupt CPM before there's a vote to corrupt. ;)
My question for you, would be how much community play you do? Since you don't belong to a corporation, and it is kind of a team game.
I'd like to be your CPM1 candidate

Seems a good start for that we do not know of what will really happen or not. Diversity is indeed a need. As for CSM, well stories and stories. Which are true which are not... Well if they improve the way everyone accepts, no one will care about corruption, unless it collides with them somehow.

When i am not playing, i'm pretty much in the dust514 irc channel all the time chatting with others and discussing ideas
In game it's generally uncommon to see me in a squad, I find the game much more enjoyable when faced with a challange, this came about because of protostomping on public matches, I use proto gear and i know how frustrating it is for new players to fight against protoplayers match in match out, so i just kinda prefer to go around doing my own thing and generally placing top of my team for WP in my trusty commando ak.0
That's not to say I dislike playing with others, during the templar event i was Templar 57, as i had the character (and many templars were refusing to play, because the templar characters only had 2m sp) I set aside the weekend to play nonstop across all 3 gametypes, joining squads and chatting to teammates all the while, it was really fun and sort of the reason I made Tech De Ra, my low SP toon that has skills in pistols and nothing else.
I also competed in the Prime league in the No Free Pass team, if you include the matches played against another teams illegal roster, we won 96% of our matches and subsequently won the tournament

A few questions In what ways would you wish to see the Connection between capsuleers and infantry expanded?
How high on your list of priorities is having dust able to perform a constant framrate of say 20 FPS?
Would you wish for the return of Corporation Battles or rather the introduction of Team Deploy for Factional warfare?
I'm sure to come up with more questions, but these seem to be ones that many people have so I put them here

First and foremost is the performance of the game, having a constant framerate of 30 fps, let alone 20, is extremely important for any shooter and should be the minimum. Apart from general performance updates that happen every patch, the impact that equipment spam has on the game (leading to the use of lag rooms, small areas filled with nanohives and drop uplinks to reduce the performance of the enemy team) should be dealt with as soon as possible.
For the eve-dust link, apart from the orbitals and orbital artillery, having a contract system up for low and nullsec planets (this would tie in with the eve and dust isk's being mixed and the markets opening up to players) would have the largest impact for both games
The return of corporation battles would be welcomed by every corp in the game, the ability to have friendly scrims and training sessions on a schedule that fit the corp and not having to wait for a timer to tick over was invaluable and needs to come back.
Team deploy for factional warfare would be great, provided that a full team would be matched against another full team. This would reduce the impact of stomping on newer players eager to get into FW and would also provide another step between pub matches and PC matches

I was anticipating this coming up, it is a valid question so thank you for asking it sooner rather than later
While it is in my best interest to form a relationship between CCP and ESL, i believe that this connection has already been made and the cups/tournaments ran by myself and CCP Logibro will continue in the near future.
My personal relationship with CCP started a decade ago when i started playing Eve online long before I became a part of ESL, the lengths CCP went to involve and understand thier playerbase amazed me and i have been an avid fan ever since.
As ESL is an esport company, not a games developer company, It is also in my best interest to do as much as i can to improve the game in every aspect, from performance and content to bug hunting and balancing.
This is something that I have been doing since the closed beta and continue to do, Whenever i find a bug or exploit I immediately contact CCP Logibro (generally in the form of dragging him into a skype call against his will, i believe he is very fond of this by now), I also give ideas for content and balancing to Logibro anytime something appears in my mind or something i see on the forums.
I also discuss weapons with CCP Wolfman and, by proxy, CCP Remnant when i get the chance to via IRC, recently the weapons I have discussed with them were the laser rifle, scrambler and ion pistols, combat rifle and rail rifle.
I have always been trying as much as i can to help improve Dust and i believe that I can do much more as a member of the CPM. While i will continue to do all things esports between ESL and CCP, it will be done outside of the CPM discussions, furthermore I take NDA's very seriously and i am bound by a few NDAs elsewhere, anything discussed within the CPM will not be disclosed to my peers at ESL.

short answer, yes, long answer, yessssss
As an avid fan of the Tribes series, having mouse support that is as close to perfect as possible is a serious goal that would benefit those who want to play dust but hate the dualshock 3 and 4
While people do argue that giving kbm support provides an advantage that controller users don't have, (ignoring aim assist, i have it turned off because it just gets in the way) at some point in the future dust will eventually be on PC, supporting kbm early on allows smoothing out of any issues, adding extra support for in game options for mouse and keyboards such as reconfigurable keys and more precise sensitivity sliders.
Controller users will have to face this issue eventually, why not get it out of the way now so everyone can have fun in a control scheme they want.
The largest issue behind kbm in my eyes is mouse acceleration
I hate it, it doesnt need to exist and for some god awful reason (and as far as i am aware) it cant be turned off on the ps3, that is the sole reason why i dont use kbm in dust and bought myself a dualshock 4 and disabling aim assist, its a very precise setup that suits me fine.
Should mouse acceleration be turned off (and OneFrameThread=True gets turned to false, this is an option in the unreal engine that delays any input by one frame, this improves performance at the cost of slightly reduced responsiveness from any input) then i would definately consider going back to kbm.

Next questions:
Do you support pushing CCP as hard as you can to stop being naive and get this on the PS4 ASAP?
Do you think we need proper aircraft sooner rather than later?
Do you support abolishing tiers and instead having a system like Eve where each bit of equipment has it's place?
Do you support giving scouts an overhaul so they can actually be scouts, and not ninja rambos?
Do you support heavies becoming Fortress suits, and either giving their HMG range, or better weaponry for a variety of options?
Do you think Assaults and Logistics suits need balancing so Assault suits are no longer obsolete from what should be a support oriented suit?

What are your thoughts on dropsuit tiercide? (thread here) Basically: Only 2 tiers, MLT and STD.
MLT basic frames equivalent to the current ADV basic frames.
STD basic frames equivalent to the current PRO basic frames.
STD specialized dropsuits (assault, logi, sentinel, commando, scout) equivalent to the current PRO specialized dropsuits.
Main incentive to spend SP in a specialization skill past level 1 should be the skill bonus. On a related note, basic frame skills need a bonus that applies to all suits of a racial frame (like Amarr medium skill gives bonus to Amarr basic medium, assault, and logi) to justify having 5 levels.
What are your thoughts on making basic frames have a purpose? (thread here) Problems: They cost more than specialized suits despite being inferior, so you can't even use them as a money-saving alternative (which is odd because basic vehicles cost less compared to specialized ones).
Specialist suits are not really specialized if they're basically copy and pasted generalist suits with bonuses slapped on (basic mediums to assaults, basic heavies to sentinels). Generalist suits provide a way to est drive one specialization's role, but not another's; for example, the basic medium lets you test-drive the assault role in a way, but not logi. Basically the basic frames are nt generalized enough for specialized suits to be truly specialized by comparison.
My proposed solutions. They need a price cut, they should be at least 10% cheaper than their specialized counterpart, they should be the cheaper alternative to specialize suits.
They should be very generalized and versatile in slot layouts compared to their specialist counterparts, like a middle ground between the specializations of the suits; this could be done by altering the basic frames (like medium basics get a 2nd equipment slot and lose a module slot in exchange for removing a high slot or something). This would let players try out more roles before deciding what to specialize into.
What are your thoughts on game modes, and how big a priority they need to be? All our modes are currently simple generic game modes, with no design creativity like the original Skirmish 1.0. We need interesting modes with complexity, attack/defend, and multiple stages. (my ideas here, posted in someone else's thread)
Ambush is broken, and has ALWAYS been broken since the dawn of Dust. Its about time we abandoned the idea of "random" spawns, and use defended spawn bases; our spawn points are very predictable anyway so they're already like that anyway. (thread)
Domination is not only not unique enough compared to Skirmish, its also boringly one-sided, the team that gets the objective first and spams the most uplinks generally wins. The objective needs to cycle to various spots on the map to keep things interesting, and to give the losing team a chance. (thread)
PVE, I want it. PVPVE would also be nice (2 human teams, and 1 rogue drone team fight for control of an outpost, drones can take back objectives)
What are your thoughts on the new player experience, and how to improve it? PVE?
Gameplay tutorial for shooting, hacking, squad orders, calling strikes, calling in vehicles, recalling, using equipment, vevicle modules, etc?
Academy graduation requirements?
Tiercide?
What are you thoughts on elevating Dust's beyond that of a basic shooter, and daring to do crazy cool things? and how big a priority it should be? Fun crazy equipment? (example, not my idea)
Fun crazy installations? (example)
Fun crazy scifi environments? exotic planet types? alien vegetation (not necessarily green, should depend on star type and light received)? shipboading (EVE player ship, or NPC ships)? 0 gravity with thruster packs?
Expanding the MMO aspects? Walking stations where both EVE and Dust players can hang out?
I would like to hear your thoughts on these things.

As PS4 is x86, i believe it would be more likely for dust to be out on the PC before the PS4, there are a mass of both Eve and FPS players on the PC that are eager to get thier hands on dust but dont want to buy a ps3/4
After a PC release, porting to PS4 isn't as hard as porting from ps3
I would support pushing for this
Aircraft would be utterly useless on the current map sizes if i'm honest, I would say later rather than sooner, it would be more effective to get all the racial vehicles out first and larger map sizes before aircraft would become worthwhile.
Tiericide as it is in eve would be an amazing change for dust, it would reduce the SP rift between new and veteran players, while also reducing the amount of SP needed for new players to get a fit that they enjoy
With the introduction of cloaking and a 2nd equipment slot, I will abstain from answering this currently about the scouts. However a specific change i would love to see for the scouts is giving them the ability of team or squad vision, like what was in place before the scanner buffs. This alone would be invaluable for a team to have as a scout who is looking at an enemy is actually SCOUTING for the team
Heavies, like the scouts, are being changed in 1.8 with the important resistance to incoming fire, they may well be fortresses sooner than we think. The heavies really do need their racial weapons being finished and released as soon as possible, at which point we might be in a position to judge the balance state of them
Assaults and Logis, again, are being changed in 1.8, Logis beat assaults in the past due to thier gigantic amount of slots, CPU and PG, coupled with flat armor regen and some amazing bonuses, there simply wasnt much reason to go assaults
That however might change in 1.8, the fitting cost reduction bonuses on all logis may come with a cpu/pg nerf to the logi suits, we need to wait and see for this.
TTK is pretty fast, not CoD levels but its pretty damn close, I would like to and even enjoy discussing weaponry, suits and second to second gameplay with CCP for hours and hours to help shape dust into a smooth shooter with its own unique pace. The current TTK almost entirely invalidates the fitting system and it does need ot be changed.

Quote:What are your thoughts on dropsuit tiercide? Answered in my previous post
Quote:What are your thoughts on making basic frames have a purpose? This can quite easily be tied in with tiericide, currently basic frames are overpriced, underused, bonusless pieces of metal that might aswell have a "shoot near here, receive warpoints" sign on them
Bringing in tiericide would mean the removal of these basic frames in favor of other roles (a great example would be IWS's thread on tiericide)
Quote:What are your thoughts on game modes, and how big a priority they need to be? Skirmish 1.0 (or 3.0 as it will be known) was an amazing gamemode in codex and replication and needs to come back. Game modes would inject a great amount of extra content to the game provided they are well thought of and balanced (tl:dr, anything that runs on manus peak is not balanced)
At this point where we are getting racial parity and constant performance tweaks, extra game modes such as Skirmish 3.0 and Conquest need to be high on the to-do list and will be welcomed with open arms by all players.
Ambush is an interesting gamemode that, as you stated, has had an immense amount of issues since the beginning of time.
Spawns were static and terrible, this was changed, spawns can be dynamic and terrible Vehicles are allowed, Vehicles can either be spammed against an unprepared team and stomp or they can be spammed against a squad of AVers who instakill pretty much every tank they come across.
Ambush as it stands needs to be split up as it used to be, into Ambush and Ambush OMS but with some changes to both
Ambush would be Infantry Ambush, the matches would be infantry only on small maps or even on just a large socket.
Ambush OMS would be renamed to Vehicle Ambush, in effect it would be the same as what we have now.
Domination mode does have the issue of vehicle spam and one-sided-syndrome, a fix for this may well be coming sooner than we think in the form of the new caldari and minmatar large sockets, that feature underground and indoor areas inaccessible by vehicles, this would inject new life into the game mode.
Quote:What are your thoughts on the new player experience, and how to improve it? The NPE tutorials already in game could easily include amny of the suggestions that you listed, mainly tutorials (perhaps with the inclusion of a VR training room, or something along those lines)
Academy is something that I would leave up to CCP and their data collection to work out, the main 2 issues in this area are the fact that the academy is now unskippable, this causes a problem when a veteran player creates a new character and will literally abuse the new players in a way that is not PG13. This needs to be addressed at some point (perhaps in the form of an account tag, once one merc on that account has done the academy, no other new mercs will need to do it)
The 2nd issue is what happens when a new player does finish the academy, their next match is most likely going to be the worst time of that mercs immortal life. He is going to be melee'd, blown up, sniped, head shot, ran over, orbitaled, team killed, knifed, camped, baited, utterly wrecked by the enemy team.
This however will be solved in part by way of more tutorials and training and, more importantly, tiericide.
Quote:What are you thoughts on elevating Dust's beyond that of a basic shooter, and daring to do crazy cool things? and how big a priority it should be?
This would not be a high priority nor a low one, but it will be a constant priority none-the-less. Adding content in any shape or form has never not been good for a game (as long as its finished content and actually works), everything you listed here comes under that banner of content and should always be on the road map and indevelopment

I'd have to argue with this. CCP has repetitively stated that the game is targeted for the console market, in part because they want new customers, whereas the predominant player base of a PC version would be EVE players. Not only that, EVE players satisfied with playing DUST on PC might even cancel their EVE subscriptions. On top of that, the console gamer crowd is drastically larger than the PC gamer crowd by a large margin. I would find it extremely unlikely that CCP would consider releasing for PC before releasing for PS4.
I'd like to be your CPM1 candidate

Tech De Ra wrote:With the release of the CPM White Paper, i can confirm that i am no longer eligible as a CPM candidate under the following section: Quote:Anyone that has held a DUST 514 account for more than one hundred and eighty (180) days is eligible to put themselves forward as a candidate for a seat on the CPM, with the following exceptions: employees, volunteers, interns, affiliates, strategic partners, employees of other gaming companies/games, and family members of CCP are all ineligible. Elected members must maintain their eligibility during their term in order to remain on the council.
I wish all candidates the best of luck for CPM1, furthermore i would like to announce that i am endorsing Kevall Longstride as a candidate for CPM1. His time as CEO of Dust university, going out of his way to help others in any way he can speaks volumes about his commitment to the game and for that he has my full support
This sucks man. You were in my top 3 for people that I wanted on the CPM

If this is the case then I'm personally very sorry for this turn of events. I know that I speak for all the candidates when I say that should we be successful in the election, the CPM will be poorer without you there.
From my point of view I would argue that a 'Gaming Company' is one that makes games themselves and not one that exists as a support industry. It's like saying someone who works for Razer or Tritton is ineligible.
I would hope that Legal will also see it like this and allow your candidature to continue.
If not, I thank you very much for your endorsement and assure you yours will be an important voice in the community that the successful candidates would do well to listen to.

I definitely understand why the limitation is there, and I'm not surprised by it. But it's a shame to no longer have you in the running. :/
I'd like to be your CPM1 candidate

Tech, Kevall is correct here. I have every reason to believe that your retraction is premature, and that you may be interpreting this clause incorrectly. I urge you to pursue this with Logibro and ask for clarification before throwing in the towel. In the meantime, please ignore anyone encouraging you to step aside or who tries to make an issue of your employment. They are either politically motivated in giving you that advice, or they are simply ignorant of the damaging effect on future councils if CCP is allowed to interpret this clause liberally. |
