How does resistance modules work in eve and do you think it could work in dust?
P.s. I was playing The Last of Us today and I think I won't be able to finish it, it's just to scary when Joel is alone. Am I puss because of this?

I started out typing to explain how resistance in EVE works but then i just thought it was to much work. so i'll reply to your second question.
Keep going with Last of Us it is a great game, man up.

There are four damage types and resistance modules affect one or all of them. Ships have inherent resistances to each type and for shields, armor and hull. Skills can also affect resistance levels. The resistances have different balances for shield and armor too. When you factor in damage types based on ammo it gets complicated.
The whole system could work for DUST but it seems like CCP wants to make this game simpler.

They have the same stacking penalties as dust where first one is 100% effective then the next is 83(? i think) to 50something and so on. and They lower the remaining damage after the stacking penalty not the total. so a 50% resist reduces 50% of the damage but then the next 50% hardener is penalized by 83% reducing the remaining damage by 41.5%
example 1000 incoming damage the first 50% mod reduces it to 500 then the second reduces the remaining 500 damage by 41.5% shaving off another 207 damage. so 293 damage comes through and the resist will show 70.75% overall. Vehicles work the same way with their resist mods at the moment.
Eve however has 4 damage types. Each affects armor and shields differently and have to be hardened for individually. If damage types were added to dust you could build suits to counter rail rifles but would be obliterated by combat rifles or vice versa. Knowing your opponents weapon choices would be important.

Ahh thanks for the info but then here's another question could they work on dropsuits?

They already work the same as they do in EVE. Unless you mean having different mods for each damage type in which case no that would not work in DUST. Honestly DUST is too fast paced compared to EVE to make screwing with that a good idea.

well from what ive seen there is 4 types of dmg im not entirely sure if I get these right so though so correct me if im wrong
electro magnetic - shields/armor
kinetic - armor
explosive - armor
thermal - shields
you can either tank for some or Omni tank which is getting as high a resistance as possible. passive modules are good for one or two of them(I think) but i've seen very few types of resistance that Omni tank
obviously active mods are better but its also very useful to have passive as well.

There are also different kinds of resistance modules and they don't have stacking penalties against ones of other types. So say you have 3 active resist mods (ones you have to turn on)...in that case the 3rd one is losing a lot of its power to the stacking penalty and a 4th one would be useless. So instead of another one, you can use a damage control unit or a passive module.
Dust seems to be abstracting the 4 damage types (EM / thermal / kinetic / explosive). The first two of those tend to be better against shields (most of the time) and the other two for armor. Laser weapons are mostly thermal and some EM unless you're using one type of laser crystal that does almost all EM. Hybrids are a mix of thermal and kinetic, and projectiles have a mix of kinetic and any one of the other types. Tech2 versions of projectile ammo do mostly explosive. Missiles can be of any type and only do the one type of damage. |

The 4 resistance types in EVE and the passive/active modules work well in EVE. active modules give you more resistance than passive modules and they can be overheated for a short time giving you more resistance before burning out. But active modules require capacitor power, which is limited on ships, and with energy neutralizes, you can be capped out, making your active modules basically worthless.
The planning and fitting of an EVE ship is very complicated and play a huge role in your tactics. Most pilots try to omni tank for PVP whereas you can tank very specifically for Pve.
The setups, module's, benefits and detractors of passive versus active work very well for EVE.
The same concept could work well in Dust as long as it was not as complicated. The active modules could work on vehicles but not dropsuits. Like in EVE each races suits could have natural suit resistances. And players could add to these resistance our just stack more hp.
It would add an amazing level of tactics to Dust. The enemy is using a lot of rail rifles so you stack kinetic resistance and drastically reduce their damage. But if a lazor or scrambler catches you it eats through your em hole. In a tight CQC map with lots of grenade and mass drivers, you could stack explosive resistance. But the thermal damage of assault rifles will still tear you up.
While it should not be as complicated as EVE, implementing the four damage types could add a while new layer of tactics to Dust. It could be amazing. |
