I leveled precision enhancement to 5 and range amp to 4 on my proto scout alt and gave it a whirl. WOW, passive scans are actually very effective on this build! I was using two complex enhancers and 2 enhanced amplifiers on my advanced Gal scout, giving around 27dB and 60m radius of passive scans. Went 24/3, on a complete glass cannon scout shotty - 200 EHP and no grenades/militia nanohive.
It became pretty clear that this build (and maybe stealth scouts in general) are only effective in city maps with plenty of cover; whenever a guy had even a bit of line of sight on me, I tended to get shot at. Surprise is your best friend and luckily, with sweet passive scans you almost always have surprise on your side.
I may just level up scout and precision/range to proto on my main now :) |

It's probably the best weapon in the scoutly arsenal. It's a shame active scanners do it for a tenth of the investment.

Get some dampeners in there, and you become the most feared object on the battlefield. I would know. And I only run a Light Frame. :D

I dunno, I think I like passive scans better than active. They don't alert your prey that you're stalking them (or that you're in the area at all), and your equipment slot is still free for REs or a nanohive. Best of all, your scan data is constant within your radius, without ever having to switch out of your main weapon :) |

Haven't had to use a dampener yet since in the few games I played, no one was running anything above the A-45 scanner. If they do I can pull out my proto suit with a dampener and three range amps :D Though my precision is only 32.4dB. |

I hear you - I so dig the passive scanning situational awareness! Pretty much all my suits run the precision enhancer and range extender. I don't go for max range though, instead slapping on a armor repper to keep myself viable long-term.
Now, if only we could get the precision down a bit more to deal with those pesky high-level scouts. I do check my six religiously though because I'm paranoid another scout may be stalking me.....
