To all the rookie infantry out there. Watch Moody's video and see what happens when you shoot your little guns at an Assault Dropship that is out hunting:

Notice that the ADS has to be very close to the ground to passively mark you on their TacNet? Also, notice how non-AV infantry weapons don't do any damage but light up your position with muzzle flash and provide a handy dandy tracer back to your position? Do yourself a favor and keep your head down. Find cover and conserve ammunition.

I killed 2 Gunnlogi's with an NT-511 once.
But that's not a dropship.
As a pilot, I'd like to add more to this: THE FOLLOWING ARE NOT AV WEAPONS.
-Assault Rifles
-Rail Rifles
-Combat Rifles
-Scrambler Rifles
-If you can hit with a Plasma Cannon, you're good to go
-Any other weapons besides Swarms and Forge Guns
SO STOP IT BEFORE I JUST SQUISH YOU! D:<

OK, if you want to cover edge cases I'll revise my simple advice:
"Don't shoot non-AV light weapons at Assault Dropships unless they are about to die already or you know some tricks that you can do with Flux Grenades, Mass Drivers and Flaylocks."

I don't know if it was an assault drop ship, but I stripped the shield off a drop ship with a HMG - which made it freak and run away (which was the intention) |

I believe the HMG is meant to have some AV capabilities but it's not as good as a dedicated av weapon (kind of like the forge gun has some AI capabilities) so this is believable

(Also...ScR is pretty good)

I got a low-flying dropship with a militia locus grenade BPO yesterday.
AV nades work even better.
They gotta be low though. |
