unfortunately CCP screwed you new players on the 1200 WP thing. its basically CCP's way of saying HTFU, im pretty sure a lot of new players have complained to CCP about that problem but nothing has been changed so i guess QQ more to get their attention 
but still it sucks for new players since they get thrown into the wild where us wolves will eat you alive. so the best and only solution is to get into a decent corp and try to get those SP numbers up to be able to survive in the dust world.

Contrary to popular belief, not all us vets like to protostomp, its just the way CCP likes to keep the playerbase low I guess....
yep us vets have tried to help the new players, but all our cries fall upon deaf ears.
well at least i don't protostomp so new players can't blame me for killing them
we all know that when CCP does fix one thing, at least 2 other things will be broken. and how CCP reached a decision of 1200WP is crazy. heck if it was 12 000 WP at least the new players will get more practice, but 1200WP? thats not even a warm up, thats like stretching your arms half way and BAM you're fighting against protostompers.

well you should check out the corp that are within your timezone, that way you will have players suited to your playing time. and some corps have public channels for you to try them out. if you are in the EU timezone then you are free to check us out ..FORSAKEN.. (dots included) is our public channel.
well im a dedicated heavy so a MLT heavy with various weapons wont be such a good idea if you dont mind being very slow since the heavy suits are the slowest suits in the game. you're more likely going to die before you get into cover coz of your speed unless you kill the guy before he does then its all good. but hey, no need to listen to me its your suit, you make it however you like 
just don't get upset when true heavies pick on you for not being a true heavy

As far as the suits, I do tend to do more assault just for the versatility and damage vs mobility, but honestly I enjoy just about everything. It's a bit of a crutch. I like sniping, tanking, LAVing to harrass the enemy, AV with the Forge because I feel like swarms are pointless atm. I can play to fit just about any role, just gets hard picking one to focus on. >.<
lol its fine with me, our public channel is filled with our alliance friends which most are in the US so you wont be low on players to play with. who knows maybe you might see me and my corp mates in the channel when we're online
well like i said, how you want to customize your suit is entirely up to you
i use my heavy + HMG setup, unless its those open ass maps then im switching to the RR for longer range
