Basically Speed tanking sucks, and Shield tanking and Armor tanking are having a tug of war, that is only won by the Omni tanks. I think if we remove the Omni tank and fix the speed tank we can fix Shields and Armor also, and all we have to do is simply use a mechanic EVE has.
In EVE a speed tanked ship can dodge bullets, but since in EVE you don't manually aim it is basically a simple concept, in theory. In Dust 514 speed tanking adds in another dimension, how fast you as a person can move your hands, but the numerical factor, your speed, doesn't do the dodging for you and maybe it should...
As for shield tanking as your shields go up, your hitbox goes up meaning you are easier to hit if you shield tank.
So let's build on these two concepts.
Maybe your hitbox should decrease as you sprint, the faster your sprint speed is from x value the higher the chance is for your hitbox to decrease, on the contrary the slower you are the smaller that hitbox decrease is. So a scout running at X faster than X2 speed would have Y hitbox. Meaning speed tanking is now viable by maintaining momentum; the faster you move the harder you are to hit mechanically, and numerically.
Now we add the increased hitbox mechanic to shield tanking which, added to the speed tanking, means that although the hit box is bigger as you stack shields the hitbox decrease from moving is bigger than an armor stacked suit since their movement speed would be lower. Since a true shield suit doesn't need armor they can mitigate damage by moving in and out of battle, rather than trying to stand and deliver. As for armor suits they would have a smaller natural hit box so they will feel lighter and nimble, although slower, but they will not be able to mitigate as much damage through sprinting when compared to a shield suit.
Then comes omni tank, an omni tanked suit would not only suffer from the bigger hitbox of shield tanking but also the reduced hitbox mitigation of armor tanking, making him/her an extremely vulnerable target and thus the death of the Omni tank, and the rise of Speed, Shield and Armor tanks as seperate entities. |
