Was using a flaylock from a set of stairs today and, dare I say it, I was killing rather effectively with it.
I know from experience that explosives work better from an elevated point rather than the ground, but never could pinpoint just why the splash seems to apply a bit better from that position.
  What do yall think?

I'd have to draw a picture.
Added note: I'm an extremely ****** artist with Paint, so excuse the crudeness. Here. Basically, you are able to apply damage better since it (the explosion) will be set off at their feet a lot easier. Chances are, you'll get that ****** right between their feet from an elevated area, but not head on.

Imagine grid lines on a piece of paper. It's much easier to hit the square you want from above than it is from at an angle (because the square become a long, thin rectangle), thus making it easier to get your splash damage where you want it (just like it's easier shooting at an enemy by a wall than out in the open).
It's also generally easier fighting a downhill battle anyway.

If you miss shooting downward, you hit the floor, still allowing for some splash damage. Otherwise, it'd just keep flying.

Try running at people from behind like you would attack jumping with a shotgun an see if you can land two or three shots at the ground without taking splash, maybe it's the new way to use the faylock, like a shotgun |

Easier to judge distance when aiming from above. It's like shooting at a wall in front of you instead of shooting at an angle towards someone's feet.
Also, mass drivers and plasma cannons have an arc. Arcs are only affected by gravity, so shooting downward would negate the arc, meaning that it makes it easier to shoot the weapon, almost as if firing it in a straight line.

What do yall think? Maybe it's because you normally shot people in balls, and on elevated ground it is easier for you to headshot?
