hello all. if you don't know me, i am TranquilBiscuit ofVaLoR. full time scout. and the stealthiest, quickest delicacy you will ever meet.
i am here to give a little insight on speed tanking in Tank 514, i meant AR 514, oh well you know what i'm trying to say. (kidding obviously)
first, i'll start out with a disclaimer. if you are getting into the role of the speed tanking scout, then make sure that you have the means to avoid AT LEAST ADV scanners, even if you have to give up some speed for a profile dampener. speed tanking means that it won't take much to kill you, and if they can see you through a wall before you can flank, then you're as good as dead.
i would recommend trying to avoid ADV scanners passively, and i'll give you 2 ways that i know for sure will do it.
1.) Scout operation to 5 2.) Scout operation to 3 and profile dampening to 4.
now if you're new and don't know how to speed tank, let me just say it's a bit of an sp sink, but in the end you will need to get Kinetic Catalyzation to 5. this is how you will achieve those untouchable speeds.
The Execution
it is imperative that you remember one thing at ALL COSTS when speed tanking. DON'T LET YOUR WANT FOR KILLS GET THE BETTER OF YOU. this is still something i haven't quite mastered, but i can definitely consider myself an expert on. you WILL die in less than a second of concentrated fire, so the goal is to minimize the amount of times your opponent can hit you. this is especially important when jumping headfirst into a large crowd of reds. the second you become greedy for kills is the second you will die. when your in a group of reds, never stop moving, and only stay in there for no more than a few seconds. then you need to run, and quick. you can return in a few seconds once the awareness of your presence has died down.
good thing to remenber, the faster you are, the harder you'll be to catch. keep moving, only slowing for quick breaks to regain your stamina.
The 2 (actually 3) Banes of CQC
these are 2 things that there is unfortunatley no way to avoid, and you must learn to deal with them.
1.) Lag everyone in DUST knows about the horrendous framerate drops that occur due to equipment spam, or the map itself, but lag affects CQC fighters the most. especially when using nova knives or shotguns, the lag gets so bad, that it becomes difficult to hit almost completely stationary targets. there is no way to avoid this and you must learn to deal with it.
2.) Hit Detection while this has been fixed for the most part, any shotgunner or sniper can testify that it is still a very apparent problem. In CQC, that one hit that doesn't register can be the difference between life or death, and it often times is. again, there is no way to avoid this and you must learn to get past it.
3.) Sprinting Bug after much testing i've found that this bug ALWAYS happens if you try to sprint immediately after firing ANY weapon or using equipment. unlike the others, this bug is new to 1.7 and hopefully will be fixed by 1.8. in the meantime though, if you don't train yourself to get past this, you WILL die countless times to it. 2 possible fixes are as follows:
a.) crouch right before sprinting b.) pause before shooting and sprinting
Possible Fits
i know many people run ADV or lower most of the time, but unfortunately i run proto almost all the time, unless i'm nova knifing. even so, i will share a few fits that i use for you to try out.
Scout gk.0 (Main) CRG-3 Shotgun 'Syndicate' SMG 3 Complex Kinetic Catalyzers Basic Reactive Plate Complex Shield Extender
Scout mk.0 (don't use this, but i know it works) K5 Specialist Shotgun 'Syndicate' SMG 3 Complex Shield xtenders 2 Complex Kinetic Catalyzers
Minamatar Light Frame M/1 Series Combat Rifle Ishukone Nova Knives Enhanced Profile Dampener Complex KinCat Complex Shield Extender
last but not least, practice makes perfect. don't expect to be an expert scout day 1. it took many of us months to get to the level that we are at now.
well, happy hunting my sneaky brothers(and sisters).

Is it 10m/s 11m/s?
whats a gallente scout with 4 complex kin cats come out to? if i've gotten that right.
one guy i have runs at 9.6 and i can barely control him!
my main speed tanking fit, the scout gk.0 i showed runs at 10.73 m/s, which is about .35 meters faster than the fastest scout mk.0 (10.38)
the fastest suit in the game is the scout gk.0 with 4 complex kincats, though it's not a very viable fit.it runs at 11.11 m/s.

I've never done it but you could try a high tier caldari medframe kin kats in the lows extenders in the highs
caldari ck.0 [ damage mod x1 pro shield extenders x3
kin kat x3 ]
caldari ck.0 [ damage mod x1 pro shield extenders x3
kin kat x2 cardiac reg x1 ]
not sure if those would be viable but maybe... well as fate would have it, i have experimented extensively on speed tanking a caldari medium frame ck.0.
long story short, it is viable, and actually is more versatile than a scout suit, but the maximum speed is 9.84 m/s with 3 kincats. on top of that, the stamina pool does make a significant difference, as well as the profile.

My Mk.0 if i EVER get to play dust again, while speed tanked, get all the way up to 10.40 Sprt speed. 10.38 is the absolute maximum for a minmatar scout.
my speed tanked scout gk.0 runs at 10.73 m/s, with an absolute max of 11.11 m/s.

mollerz wrote:I was really disappointed when I first saw the minja stats drop. Still went with it though I was expecting to be faster.
hey, it's still pretty fast though. 10.38 is still a very fast sprint, faster than most suits in the game.
