Make it so you aren't really visible when they just "tag" you, but can still kinda see you. However, if they scan you and other people for say 5 seconds, they become as visible as they are now. Also, how bright people show up will be determined on how low/high their dB level is, but this shouldn't stop people who are aware of things.

The longer you scan someone, the longer they stay visible....seems like a simple and elegant solution to me. |

How about we only allow a scanner to work for the radius that's marked in its stats page? If it's scans for a radius of 60m, it can ONLY provide a scan for a total of 60 meters, meaning that once you turn it on, you have to stand still so it can scan that 60 meters and if you turn at a the scan is no good. |

Well damn. Here I was thinking I had a good solution, but your well thought out, extremely educated counter argument seems to have fouled my idea entirely. Well played, fellow scholar. Well played. |

I would rather it cover any area that gets fully scanned, i.e., if you move, only the area that is covered during the entire scan gets scanned. So the most advantageous scan would involve not moving at all, but if you have to move in the middle of a scan you still can, and it will even return results. And unlike the OP solution, scan time is still a drawback (you couldn't cover 3 times the angle in 5-second bits of a single 17-second scan, you would actually have to focus on the scan area for the full 17 seconds).
This might be really intense for the CPU to track, however. |

I like the idea of your signature impacting the way you show up during scans. What I'd like to see is for the scan to fade more quickly the closer the signature is to the scan precision. So if you get your scout suit down to 18 dB and someone brings out a 15 dB scanner, you still benefit from having a lower signature because you won't stay on the radar as long as someone with a 55 dB signature. This would have to balance against making the scanner useful, so I'd say you can only get it down to something like 40% of the max time, with that going to 100% at maybe 1.5 times the scanner's precision, i.e., a 30 dB scanner would detect everything above 45 dB for the max time, a player at 40 dB for roughly 80% of the max time, and a player at 30 dB for 40% of the max time, but would not detect a player at 29 dB at all.
This would also make the higher-precision scanners more useful since they could maximize tracking time for low-sig objects. |

I would love for my 2 enhanced dampeners being better than my 1 enhanced and basic dampener fitting.

How about just locking you in place so that the scan angles actually have a role?
This will also fix the scan spam because almost no one will use them :D |

This will also fix the scan spam because almost no one will use them :D No. It would still be useful for pointing out enemy locations like say, if there's a giant fight like most games have. However, that sneaky and fast scout will be able to skillfully bypass your scanner. It would be up to you if you want to scan him, or scan the rest of the enemy team. EDIT: fixed spelling errors

EDIT: fixed spelling errors Scanners shouldn't lock you into place because you'd lose the ability to react, sometimes for a significant length of time. My suggestion gives you the maximum benefit if you don't move while scanning, but allows you to adapt to the situation and still offers some benefit if you can stay focused on the area of interest while moving. |
