Which do you prefer to fly, and why? I don't have a personal preference, but I know some of you will.
So; Incubus or Python?
If you can't accept change, you will fail in this world.
Adapt or die.

I prefer my python for a few reasons, The handling and speed The bounus to missiles Shields Caldari And the general look of the dropship.
The gaping vag on the gal dropship turns me off Incubus's.

Now, I'm not a real pilot, just an enthusiast I'd suppose. Flew Pythons all of 1.6, been flying an Incubus almost all of 1.7...
The Incubus feels like it has better survivability now, but the Python comes with the passive increases to Missile Turrets, which is really handy. So, it really boils down to which one of those two traits appeal to you more, durability or better turrets.
Of course, if you are using Railguns in an AV manner, then, Incubus all the way. |

Python seems, to me at least, to be the better at support friendly infantry: faster ROF of the Missiles (which are the superior AP weapons) and faster handling means that they are more capable of suppressing enemy infantry and reacting to shifts. Incubi are better at vehicle hunting, due to the power of a full skilled out Small Railgun/Incubus.
Personally, I say that the Python is superior, since the Small Missile is very powerful and still versatile. |

depends on the pilot.
the incubus is armor tanked and slower naturally because of armor tanking. i believe the incubus has more hp then the pyhton however im not looking at the stats right now so im not certain.
the python is shield tanked and naturally faster because of this. the python has less hp then the incubus but again not at stats right now.
or looks for some people.

It feels like the incubus is more stable and doesn't drift all over the place like the python does. So I'd say that it's a bit easier to fly than the python. However, the python is faster and more maneuverable.

I prefer the Incubus :
1) There are more usable fitting options. 2) Superior survivability 3) The cadari missile bonus is not that useful.

As an Incubus pilot, I tend to point new pilots towards the Python. I feel that it's just overall superior thanks to two things: Missile RoF bonus, and mobility. A python without an afterburner is still very quick and agile, so a clever shield tank can get a lot of mileage out of that. The missile bonus is the whole reason for it's general superiority though, because missiles are brutal vs infantry and armor vehicles, and still alright against shields with hardeners down. Not having to account for overheat is a blessing and is extremely useful when hunting tanks.
I fly the Incubus because I'm a Gallente loyalist, and small railguns pop shield tanks real quick. I like armor tanking, and I just forgo my bonus to use missiles most of the time because you can't put in reliable work vs infantry without them.

Interesting replies. Seems fairly equal between two.
After some minor experimenting earlier, I would say my personal preference right now would be the Incubus. For whatever reason I feel safer flying it over the Python. That being said, I do enjoy the Pythons mobility, but the missile bonus doesn't feel that large personally. Either way, I would use either depending on the situation of the game, rather than sticking to one exclusively.

DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT A PILOT
But the reason the missile bonus isn't useful for you is because you probably nose-gun, and therefore are stabilizing more than shooting. Believe me, your side gunners feel the difference in ROF significantly.

Something that isnt common knowlege, but is varry important:
A python, handles like a viper, except even better
A Gorgon handles like a flying brick An incubus handles... like a viper :-/
it was really weird, the first time I flew one. I was like "wait, did I summon a viper by mistake?? no, thats definitely not looking like a viper..."
Basically, it still has more inertia.. but its pitch/roll/yaw response is outstanding. And it still seems to have less inertia than a gorgon. Somewhere between gorgon and viper, I'd guess.

I just got into the Assault Dropships, and I only have level 1 on a few mods, but so far I perfer the Incubus over the Python. I've been stacking armor plates (can't remember which ones but I think my armor hp is just under 4000) and flying real low, using buildings for cover, kinda like an Apache. I run an Enhanced Scanner in the hi slot, but I may try sticking a shield related mod in there one day when I have more PG to work with.
All that said, the missile bonus for the Python looks pretty sweet.
I've heard it plenty before but I went through Jim Jones' suicide tape transcript to find a good quote...jesus christ.

The fact that blaster are awful to use on Dropships automatically shifts the favoring towards the Python.
Although it's different for Transport drop ships.
the Gallente Basic Dropship is better at transport and hot pickups than the basic Myron due to survivability but the assault dropship is better for the caldari because of the bonus to missiles and the shields hit and run nature. |

You know, it's a lot like flying the Apache from GTA: San Andres, biggest difference is when you bank then let go of the controller, the Apache would right itself. The Dropship will stay banked.
Anyway, all it takes is practice. Take a Grimsnes, load it up with as much armor as you can fit on it (I've got a 120mm and 3 60mm plates I think), and learn how to fly that. Once you can fly that, you can fly anything, and fly it well.
