You (CCP) say on your '12 days of DUST' website that rewards are available from one downtime to the next, but you failed to mention one thing: when are they distributed?
Apparently you have yet to learn a desperately-needed lesson regarding total up-front clarity in your communications. |

And I don't say that facetiously.
But part of my point is: for an organization that relies on people volunteering to give it pennies in revenue, which already fails at delivering any abundance of substantial self-publicity to the eyeballs of both casual and potential players, shouldn't the devs at least be complete and concise in their official descriptions of what they're doing? |

Every day between the 25th of December and the 5th of January we will be offering a free in-game gift! These items will be revealed on a daily basis and are rewarded to players that log in and win a match on that day. Each gift will be available for 23 hours (from downtime to downtime - 25th of December 11:00 UTC through 6th of January 11:00 UTC), so to ensure you don't miss out log in every day and dish out some damage! Items will be rewarded during downtime on the 7th of January.Keep an eye on http://www.dust514.com/ for more details and the dedicated portal where you will be able to track the event and get hints about the following day's freebie. We hope you enjoy your gifts GÇô and have a wonderful Holiday season.
This is all well and good for forumgoers (read: likely exclusive of new, occasional, and casual players, which DUST would do very well to retain), but...

It aint there.
Still not good enough. |

Perhaps they could give a link: "More information here."
My problem isn't that I didn't know. My question was lazy and I have played this game more than long enough to assume that I'd get the items later without looking at the forum announcements.
My problem has to do with PR. I've been on a warpath about this before. I'd say that it sucks for this game, but even if that's unfair, it's still far less than it could be.
Don't get me wrong: I like the event, and I'm playing again for the first time in a while (at least until I get my new video card for my PC), but the issue is with anybody new to DUST. The devs have had their day with magazines and websites and reviews, but now the game can only rest on as many laurels as it is given.
Considering that the game's viability as a business enterprise relies on you and I and everyone else being so goddamn giddy about the game that we volunteer to shovel over heaps of cash, shortcomings in the game's PR, or even a lack of initiative in acting on it, are potentially fatal. CCP needs to give DUST more laurels than it has earned already.
I don't want to see this game go away, ever. I want it to survive and thrive and give me fun all the rest of my life. Don't you? To that end, the way the devs present and advertize their game is very important, now as much as ever. |
