The Burst and Tactical variants were the answers to the other race's weapons. Burst was the response to CR, whereas the tactical was the response to the Scrambler Rifle. They're basically copies and are not as good as the weapons they are attempting to mimic. The Plasma Rifle's standard variant is, well, to die for in CQC.

They don't suck... They just give people different variations to try.
The Burst variant is good for close ONLY and it rips apart anybody.
The Tac variant is good for staying back and picking off foes one by one.
Its just like saying the assault rail rifle sucks but its a different variation... including an iron sight for close range engagements...

You ain't joking. I was killing pretty good with one level into it; now with Prof 3 it actually makes me look like a badass slayer, and I'm not. It should probably be nerfed just a tad.
