tl;dr: I'm giving away Eve ships as prizes for winning Dust domination matches.
So the player run isk exchange is going pretty well. A post in that thread got me thinking about what other player run work-arounds we could build until CCP gets around to more polished versions. How about ship boarding?
Phase #1: How valuable a ship would I need to offer as a prize, to get a Dust player interested in putting together a squad or entire team, to sign up for, schedule, and fight a domination match with that ship as the prize? If its not outrageously expensive, to me, I'll just provide some ships for phase 1. If the team captains want to partially fund the prize, I'll consider putting up the remainder for more expensive ships. You can probably guess where this is going for:
Phase #2: Eve pilots sign up for duels, placing a spare ship in escrow. The duel loser's (first ship below 50% armor; duel would not be fought all the way to ship destruction) escrowed ship becomes the Dust match prize. I'll post a parallel thread on the Eve forums to see if there's any interest among Eve players.
Drawbacks: Obviously this is cumbersome, even in phase 1. Signing up, scheduling matches, delivering prize ships. Most Dust and Eve players will have no interest in such a cumbersome process, but would ANY Dust or Eve players be willing to try it?
Hopefully CCP can build mechanisms to make this sort of thing less cumbersome (private matches, team deployments, etc.) or even super smooth (eve contracts that put up a ship, and can be accepted by anyone who puts up another ship of a defined value, and create a scheduled battle just like a PC match, but with maps specific to "boarding").
Until then, if we want "ship boarding" a somewhat cumbersome process is available to us, if we want to build this link between Dust and Eve.
I welcome your constructive feedback, -Gyn Wallace, Dust side -Min Lo, Eve side

The ground troops cannot use EVE ships, nor in any way outside of EVE, will they be able to even own it. They're better off in FW fighting for the pilots attempting takeovers of territories. At least then the EVE-less mercenaries are being constructive.
I'm not trying to be a complete downer as I am also not against the idea. It just seems like a large hassle for a minority possibly a bit larger or even smaller than the PC minority.
Ok, Dust players fight Domination matches, anyway. Eve ships can be sold, and the isk converted to Dust isk, and distributed to a team. Eve players can hire a Dust team.
To rephrase my question, how much additional isk would you require as a reward, for winning a Dust domination match, to get you to go through the trouble of signing up, scheduling, and fighting a match in this proposed system?
Would an extra million Dust isk payout be worth it? If it was paid just to the leader? If it was paid to each squad member?
That's the threashold I'm looking for, even though it requires us to speculate somewhat about how difficult it would be to coordinate this among the players.

Otherwise I'm not sure how to give Eve players an incentive to participate. If they are duels to the death, the loser risks losing two ships, instead of one. But at best could only win salvage plus the escrowed prize ship. And we still need to account for the Eve player's expenses for hiring Dust mercenaries, or his diminished share of the prize.
By allowing either dueler to keep his original ship (and fittings) and only risk loosing his escrowed "prize" ship, the balance of risk and reward seems more enticing.
Fighting to destruction would make more sense if the prize were worth more than the Eve ships. That's pretty much like a traditional Eve fleet tournament, something we know Eve players have participated in for years.
Thanks for the feedback on ship values.. I think I'd be willing to throw a few hundred million Eve isk at this idea, or maybe whatever profits I manage from the isk exchange. |
