Many new players are hindered by the double edge sword. Trying to learn the game in cheaper/lesser gear. You die more because you are running bad gear, but you can't afford to use decent gear to even your chances so you can at least have the oppurtunity to do well and learn.
Some methods to gain ISK in this game:
1. Farm on an alternate character Have an alt that you only run free suits on. You won't blemish your main character and you can send your main character all the ISK you've obtained. Playing 20 matches adds up quickly. Sending that money to your main will certainly help you.
2. Join a corp that pays you. Some corps will pay you. It may not be much, but it will help in the cost. Most PC Corps have paychecks, as well as larger non-PC Corps. If you are good enough to be accepted to these corps and prove you merit, they will pay you. Its not a coincidence that protostompers just happen to be PC Corp members.
3. Say "f*ck KDR" and grind in free gear. This is basically just a change in attitude towards the game. The more you stop caring about stats, the better you will do actually. Having sessions where winning or stat building isn't a priority can make the dying process easier to take. Running free/cheap gear will result in more death, but you will rake in the ISK. Run only what you can afford to lose 10-15x per match and you will profit most of the time. But be prepared to die a lot more. Last I checked, the game was about making ISK and winning matches, not having good leaderboard standings.
Despite what you may hear. Gear make a difference in this game. It is more important than player skill itself. Having the income to run the best gear you can will make the game a better experience for you.

1 character works for me, running my MLT fit is OP enough.
Assassination is my thing.

How about calling in a LAV at the start. Put droplinks near the action, drive away. Hack turrets or objectives (after turning on your lavs scanner), then drive away. Once all of those are done, go back to the starting objective, park in a safe spot and recall the vehicle and run active scanner over the objective/guard it. Sometimes you'll kill a red who is hacking (tip: You can usually take a half second to aim at the head before holding down the fire button)
Then again, its not really a gun game anymore. |
