Hey guys. I just thought I would bring this to your attention and also I wanted to see if anyone else has noticed this.
So I was playing as a shotgun scout again recently and while I did have a bit of fun for a while it made me realise again just how many things are wrong with the scout but I digress.
I noticed that when I was taking damage, (especially noticeable when I was fleeing an area) as I was being shot it felt like I was being rooted into place. As if the bullets were slowing me down or somehow pulling me back slightly. Has anyone else noticed or experienced this 'rooting' effect? It was especially noticeable as I was trying to escape around corners. My speed literally dropped as I was being shot up. (I have only noticed this when I play as a scout / light) |

I have not heard of this mechanic before? Could you please elaborate?
As a scout the limited speed advantage I have is one of the last few things the scout has that keeps it alive. It felt like I was going from my usual 8-9m/s sprinting speed down to a walking pace. Are you saying this 'mechanic' is intended?? |

Hey man thanks for that.
What the actual f**k though. Slowing down scout suits when they are shot!? That's absolutely stupid! It is stupid all around for any suit for that matter!!!
I could be shot at close range or 100m + away and I am still slowed to a crawl! |

This is a part of the meta game "CCP's mysteries".
I'm not sure, but voices tell that this is a feature of the game, it's like a suppressive fire, when you are under costant fire you are slowed. I've never been aware of this, because i run with low HP and when i'm under constant fire i'm dead.

I never noticed it before in medium and heavy suits. Or at least it was such a little effect that it went un-noticed. As a scout using speed to maneuver around the maps, I take one or two shots and my sprint has been slowed to a walk! Why the hell would you even make this mechanic into a game?

I've felt it too, almost like an instantaneous freeze when each bullet lands. It can impede jumping as well as turning and sprinting for a split second.
It shortens TTK by stunting movement during engagement.
I hate it as assault, I would be raging as a scout. In fact scouts in general are at the head of the getting screwed over list imo. Playing scout basically turns up the difficulty meter.

EDIT - So I have learnt that this is an intended mechanic called "physical impulse". Does anyone else find this to be a horrible game mechanic? It does really damage scouts way more than any other suit I feel. I have heard many players refer to this as a glitch called stunlocking, I have never heard of this physical impulse effect, I think its a glitch |

I don't think it has to do with ppl shooting at you. I think sometimes, maybe when you start sprinting before you finished reloading completely (which would happen most often in a firefight), the game slows down your sprint. I think what happens is you go into sprinting animation but the game does not actually know you are sprinting and has you go at a normal walking speed. So, it's a glitch similar to the instances where you finish reloading but have no actual ammo in your gun (again this happens when you are doing a fast sequence of actions: e.g sprint as you are finishing a reload).
Oh, sht! I just learned you can make a signature! Thanks, CCP! Forums are getting better!

This is exactly what I am talking about. I guess then it applies to all, however you guys go out there and play with a scout suit, you will instantly notice it a LOT more.
Can we get a comment from CCP about this at all?
It certainly hurts scout suits immensely more than most but overall I think it is bad for the game. I dont even understand WHY this mechanic would be implemented?
I can understand a form of suppression but this makes no sense at all. |

Physical Impulse only affects dead people.
I mean where else in the patch notes where they improved death?
Also being able to talk with CCP that what it should be effecting this is not that one silly patch back in close beta where I got nailed in the shoulder by a large railgun shot and it spun me around 270 while still alive.

I'm not sure if it's related. But there is currently a sprint bug, which often occurs after shooting a weapon. That slows your sprint speed( like running though quicksand). |

I think these two are correct. Physical impulse is for the ragdoll after death.
Suppressive type fire is in other games but I dont think its in this one. What you are most likely experiencing:
1. sprint bug - needs to be fixed 2. environment glitching which still occurs 3. sluggish turn movements or failure to sprint - think this is due to DS3 controller and why CCP should allow customizable control schemes so you can get a dedicated sprint button. |

Did you just randomly type words for the first half of this sentence thinking you'd get away with it as no one really reads your stuff anyway?

Physical impulse was added in 1.7 and affects only ragdoll physics, so far as i can tell.
There is a much older game mechanic that causes all suits to slow down when taking fire - it affects how fast you move, it affects how fast you can rotate. My feeling is CCP introduced it as an anti-strafe mechanic back when the framerate couldn't keep up to the scouts.
There is a third effect which i call the 'mass driver rattle' which messes with your aiming when taking MD fire.
So we have tree fire-effect mechanics:
1) Slowdown from all incoming fire. 2) Mass Driver 'rattle'. 3) Ragdoll physical impulse.
I always though the slowdown was kind of cheesy. It's not that the idea of some effect from taking fire is unwelcome, it's that the slowdown effect is bland and homogenous, and most damningly it messes with kinetic, visceral gameplay.
I would rather see a 'rattle' effect +á la the Mass Driver where:
- Shield damage causes no rattle at all.
- Armour damage causes rattle proportional to the caliber or explosive power(i.e. armour hp damage done) of incoming physical rounds. Think momentum transfer.
- Momentum transfer would also mean heavy rounds would physically push light targets - a heavy with HMG could physically move opponents, pushing a scout off the edge of a rooftop before actually killing them, for example.
I support SP rollover.

CCP three months ago was all like 'yo CPM dawg we improved death in the game and it's awesome!'
CPM be all like how so?
CCP replied "Dude; we put "impulse" on all the guns so you can be seeing fools ragdolling while you ragdoll them."
