A great mechanic for a sci-fi FPS would be time travel.
The Time Travel Device (TTD) would take up an equipment slot and have a high CPU/PG requirement. When activated/deployed, the user would be able to travel forward or backwards through time as they see fit. The higher the Tier of TTD you equip, the more accurate your time selection will be. Forward or backward time travel would function as such:
Forward time travel: The player would be able to travel forward in time 5 or 10 minutes or so, see how the battle has unfolded, which control points the enemy decided to push etc. After a few minutes of assessing the battle, the player will transport back to his own time, and be able to help his team adapt accordingly with the knowledge he's gained from the future.
Backwards time travel: In the case of the backwards TTD, a player may escape the hopeless lost cause of humiliating defeat (Caldari FW for example) and attempt to erase the mistakes of the past. When activated, the player will rewind the game to a point of their choosing. The major drawback is that any player traveling backwards in time will likely encounter them-self before they made the time-jump. Extreme caution must be used when interacting with your past self, and should be avoided at all costs. You could inadvertently prevent your past self from traveling through time, and causing you to cease to exist.
Any thoughts?

As someone who seriously considers the idea of multiplayer bullet time because of how insanely unlikely it is to work, I really hope that your post is just meant to be a joke. Otherwise, you seem to not understand reality. |
