Just spurring some conversation on the forums, haven't really before so why not.
The topic at hand is the maps. Find yourself leaning more towards urban or does the vast openness tickle your fancy? Dust so far has only a few structure types that are plopped into the geography, but let's say if we had the chance to see some specialized levels that are unique to themselves. Why not a few forests? Why not an actual factory. Something that stands out for that particular map.
For me I'm all for seeing some denser - centralized areas that take out all of that negative space in between. Maybe not really fit for tanks, but levels that gear toward using smaller vehicles wouldn't be such a problem.
Some of course will say, that takes out some of the crucial aspects of dust. Ahem "I came here not to play a CoD clone, taking out certain vehicles is just plain st-" blah blah yes whatever. Anyway some variety like that would be appreciative.
But this is a place to spew out what you're looking for in terms of maps.

I would absolutely LOVE to have a dense forest map. Hiding in the trees and bushes, perfect for guerrilla warfare.

I fancy the idea of jungle, swamp, and forest maps, but something a bit more urban would be nice as well. I remember playing in big city-type maps in a lovely game called Hawken, and playing some BF4 off and on also gives me a longing for such environments. Honestly, any maps with water or foliage would be lovely. lol I realize the game is called Dust but ffs I keep seeing planets that looks positively verdant; why the hell are all of the battlefields in the middle of nowhere?

lol, didn't mean to encroach on your territory. Brings up another point. Certain classes would overall benefit from this. Seeing a sole scout running out there in the open is painful to watch, as I charge my forge to send a formal hello. Heavies are better chokeholds in corridors as well, but barely have enough situations were this could be properly utilized |

The Caldari Production outpost didn't make it past performance testing or we would have had your factory in 1.7. The Minmatar Cargo outpost should be soon after and looks like Matari warrior heaven. Both of those are very intriguing to me and will add two full surface infrastructure sets to mix things up.
Working within the current terrain and socket setup I'd like to see more of a spaceport type of environment but the scale is a bit small even for the large socket. EVE ships are huge but they could probably do the launchpad structure from EVE planetary colonies.
To think outside the current technical box I'd like to see an urban environment that spans the 5KM terrain map but I think the PS3 would just unplug itself and jump out the window.
One thing I would really like to see is more life to the battlefields. Currently, they all look like the civilians evacuated right before we arrived. What would happen if some areas didn't get a warning and we had to avoid killing civilians with similar repercussions that we now have in FW.

I don't think the 5KM urban density map would be a challenge for the PS3, and should be considered.
I also think that placing a "situation" or "crisis" on a map (like civilians in the way, or drone infestation, OR my favorite premise: Hive implantation on the entire staff of a facility requires us to engage the district but immobilize [not kill] as many of the personnel as we can, using devices made available only in a PvE match], is a simple but effective way to spice up an existing map. |

Sounds like an escort mission.
Anyway... -Spaceships! Need some more corridor fighting. -Urban Jungle. Sounds like minmatar heaven. -Actual Jungle/forrest. Also minmatar heaven.

My favorite map is the noob map with the bridge outside. The one with the room by the stairs.
If there are no tanks that is easily the funnest place to fight in dust. Also if there are tanks there are huge areas where tanks do not have any impact.
Easily the best map in dust.

Sadly devs said they will never make a urban map. With eve lore dust mercs can never get near civilians under concord watch. If there is ever a event that breaks concord wrath over mercs then that might change.

we need a dense metropolis map, similar to amarr (which for you non-EVE is similar to coruscant), that there are winding bridge-roads that require tanks to take longer paths, while infantry can take smaller bridges and stares to go trhough the terrain quiker, and ebcause its in a city kilometers in the air, Dropships reign supreme in maneuverability and tactical superiority.
we also need maps where a vast majority of wahst important is underground, so you can ight over entranes and spawn locations above, but its all infantry below.
and maybe some maps that are for almost pure-vehicle, large open maps with hacing point near small bunkers or inside crashed ships.
we also need maps INSIDE crashed dreads/titans/MCCs, mayeb have those on variants of the metropolis map |

What i really think would add more flavor to the current maps is to show that the facilities are already a war zone before we got there. Broken tanks, small fires, bullet holes and burns marks around tight corridors where there was already a stand off. A crashed dropship hanging out of the side of a building. An LAV up on cinderblocks or in a garage.( somesones gotta tend the facility) A crashed war barge where the control point is (obviously because there is some precious cargo) in several pieces because it exploded on the way down. |

Most of my map desires revolve around more nighttime and more weather.
But I'd like a large redwood type forest, with underground sockets, like the big hollow pyramids except you have to drop down from the hole in the middle.
Mcc duels, pulled right next to each other with like boarding walk ways shot from the attacking one into the defending one, and give them an interior so you can actually have corridor fighting.
Fighting in eve debris, pitch black, vacuum, slowly rotating barrel roll with debris floating through the corridors.
Polar maps, not the sparse brown and white maps, but legit snow where sockets are half buried and theirs blowing snowstorms with low visibility, instead of acid pits underneath certain sockets that people occasionally spawn over and die, you could have crevasses placed around the map randomly. Flares marking paths in the snow. |

Bump because I do want to hear from a developers standpoint on what's up with maps. ( I just want to be noticed ;_;) We all have our ideas on what new types of layouts we want. Heck I'll settle for the concept art on the loading screens depict. |
