So I have this beautiful 70 inch Vizio Smart TV that I simply cannot play playstation on.
Idk how to describe it, but it just feels TOO fluid. I can't aim or track targets at all on this thing. I just stuck with my PS Display. For some reason my gameplay is amazing on a smaller screen, but sucks complete ass on larger screens.
Anyone else experience this odd phenomenon?

46" is pretty much all I can see at once.
More than that and it turns into peripheral suicide.
But, there is that new UltraHD that seems to fix more of the problems you seem to be having.

Not sure about it being too fluid that sounds a bit silly but i do agree that a big T.V isn't good for gaming for no other reason than not really being able to see everything on the screen at once that effectively. I used to think playing on my big screen T.V was totally badazz until i played God of War 3 where they place the buttons for the QTE on the edge of the screen so i had to turn my damn head in 4 different directions just to do a friggen QTE! 
So for the last few years my T.V for gaming is 32" and i use the bigger one just for movies. |

I've found its a trade off, I used to play all my games on a 115" projector and found i'd get a lot more head shots but you lose some periferal vision ...and forget about reading the killfeed ect. |

Refresh rate? I've played on 60inch TVs with a slow refresh rate, input lag made everyone else seem faster. Also the controls felt loose.
I bought a 48inch with a much higher refresh rate, and I've noticed everything else to be more precise.
Dead on the ground.... Think I made a wrong turn :/

Me and my mates were trying to discuss this whil watching a hd movie on a new 60+ hdtv, the best I could describe it was itsfast forward and slowmo at the same time. Like the forground and background aren't synced? Especially car scenes or lots of movement.... is that what u guys are talking about? Must be some new refresh rate technology, but yer I hate it, and the tvs owner can't see it anymore after a week. |

Yes! That's it exactly, the foreground and background aren't synced and move at different rates. That was what kept getting me killed when trying to play DUST on the 70 inch.

Surely it's just an issue of how far you're sat away from your screen. People upgrade to 70 inch from 36 inch, but don't move their sofa back as much as they need to. |

i have a 56 inch that I use.
you might try sitting back further from the TV. the problem could be that you are moving your eyes to much and you can't see everything at once.

I have an 80" that had the same problem. What fixed it was the "custom" color setting. The colors were just to damn bright and sharp. Almost blinding. Dim it down and see if it's better.

There's just too much real estate when you get down to the nitty gritty. Yes, its awesome to see a game played on a large TV but its just too much.
I'm comfortable with a 32 or even a 20 incher is fine. I have a 32 incher in the game room and its perfect for gaming. Not too big and not too small.

Shouldn't be an issue unless you're to close to your tv. Sounds crazy but trust me it can be an issue. Best way to describe it would be to think of your tv as tunnel vision machine. Best way to simulate this would be to sit closer to your smaller screen. Try to get the FOV the same as it would be with your 70". |

Just out of curiosity how many hz does the tv flicker at? May also have to do with output hz not being dividable by the input fps, so somewhere inbetween a computer chip fills the blank cycles. Anyone know dusts framerate? |

Input lag. Some of the larger tvs have a 20 ms or more seek time. This is why your controls may feel mushy. If you have ever played guitar hero on a big screen, that's why they have that calibrate option, so your drumming or whatever can be matched up to the console with what you actually see on the tv.
I do terrible on dust when I play on my big tv. I use a 19 in LCD to play dust. From what I have gathered in my research, 24 in with a seek time of less than 5 ms is ideal. BenQ makes some nice gaming displays that are actually really affordable. Probably gonna pick one up after the new year. |

There is an optimal viewing distance for any given TV size and resolution. Bigger isn't better and smaller isn't better. It all depends on your room size and how far away you are. |

This. If it's too fluid, find some setting--depending in the TV it may be called something motion--and turn it off.

DUST outputs its video at 720p - That's a resolution of 1280+ù720 (1280 pixels across and 720 down)
I have a 1920 x 1080 res screen that is only 28" and at times DUST doesn't look all that great as the screen is up-scaling the image to compensate for the lack or pixels. However it is fine and I am quite used to it.
I also think the PS3 has a rudimentary form of Anti-aliasing (A method that tries to smooth the jagged edges of pixels so they are not as apparent though I could be wrong here - WAIT I am wrong there is no AA on PS3 only a edge blurr filter so this could be contributing to the problems)
I can only imagine what that looks like on a huge 70 inch screen! o_0. Also do you know what the refresh rate of the screen is? That could be a cause for concern if it is really slow (I would guess it would be at least 50-60 Hz so there should not be a problem) |

Dust framerate? = PC matches single figure :P
It is not a high frame rate most of the time I would say less than 30 fps but I think the video is output at 50Hz or 60Hz |

Try a gaming monitor from your PC that accepts 720p natively (i.e. no scaling) with HDMI if you want to minimize it.

Just want to quote this because this is your problem. I forget exactly what it does, but i think it's some TV's delay the video stream for like a second to allow for better video processing, which is why it looks so fluid. In game mode, the extra second is removed and I think the quality is marginally lower. So basically the shiny effect is delaying what you see and what is happening in the game by a second so you're literally behind a second.

Does your television have 'game mode'? You may be dealing with the input lag caused by extra process of rendering your television is trying to handle. Larger televisions only compound this issue.

This. The newer large screens can feel terrible if seek time can't be sync'd with the media input. Games fair the worst, but I've seen one's where media players can be terrible on the screen. Someone said there's a feel like fast forward and slow motion all at once, which is exactly what it feels like. |

You may want to look in your settings. There should be a motion blur setting, or something like that. I'd also suggest calling up you TV manufacturer, they may be able to walk you through settings adjustments and help with your issues.
I got my 55' Plasma Panasonic right afterSkyrim came out, and when I first played it on my TV, turning left or right was making me almost vomit. Messed with my motion blur settings, and did some other stuff I don't remember but the Panasonic people told me to do it and i've had no problems since.
Also, I hate to be this guy, but Vizio? :-(
Keep it clean (dust wise, real dust, not Dust 514), keep it cool, don't put it in an entertainment center, make sure it has tons of space to breath. Vizio uses cheap parts, and I doubt the thing will last you more than 5 years, maybe less. My damn Panasonic uses a crappy, cheap tuner board (which is already buzzing after less than 2 years), and when it goes out it's gonna cost me a couple hundred at least to fix it myself. Luckily i'm mechanically inclined, because thats gonna involve taking my TV apart.

Nothing wrong with Vizio, they make a decent TV for the price.
As others said, the issue is probably the 120hz part. My Insignia has some crap that allows me to turn on 120hz motion blur yada yada, effectively making everything look like a soap opera. It has been set to off, permanently, on every input.
I imagine your TV has a similar option. Try locating it and turning it off. |

They use cheap parts, which is why they cost so much less. If you compare a Vizio to a, say, Samsung of the same type, size, ect ect, you will see a massive price difference. It's not cause Vizio is being nice, it is because they use cheap parts.
I bought my Panasonic just after new year a couple years back, and my understanding is after christmas, panasonic ripped out the expensive tuner boards from their left over plasmas of my model, replaced them with waaaay cheaper tuner boards, and advertised them as new years left over sales. Now I have a TV thats suppose to last around 200,000 hours at least, but probably won't make it through its 3rd year of life.
I've heard it plenty before but I went through Jim Jones' suicide tape transcript to find a good quote...jesus christ.

I would assume is because having a bigger TV means more sensory input for your brain to process, which means you can't reach as fast as you would if you had a smaller screen. On the contrary a smaller screen means you need to focus more to spot the smaller details, which adds to the better game play on a smaller screen. All in all I think it's just preference. |

Vizo is a crappy TV. Only has 120Hz. He should have went Sharp or Samsung. They have 60in plus TV's with 240Hz. After you get to 60in or larger you need at least 240Hz. on your TV. Personally don't no how you can live with something smaller then 80in. |

Did you forget to deactivate the frame filling feature?
There are 120hz tvs that calculate additional frames in-between frames in order to make it look more fluid.
Which is obviously bad for gaming, like so many "helpful" features.
Very nice for movies, though, until we finally get 60fps as cinema standard. |

Oddly enough yes. I have a 60in that I never play on for this reason. & I have tried so many times, but just cannot adjust to it. |

120 Hz is fine, anything above that is simply a marketing ploy or built for 3d playback. The 50" pioneer elite from 2003 sitting in my living room still blows the current cheap competition out of the water in terms of general picture quality albeit the higher wattage. Also 70" is a bit overkill 60 would be the max for me. In this case bigger isn't necessarily better. 4k was made for those sizes tho

59in an less, an your are correct 120hz is perfect. 60in an over you need 240Hz. Also 60in TV's are so tinny. |

Big screens are good for sniping and using vehicles. Smaller screens are better for infantry combat. Just my experience.

I bought my Panasonic just after new year a couple years back, and my understanding is after christmas, panasonic ripped out the expensive tuner boards from their left over plasmas of my model, replaced them with waaaay cheaper tuner boards, and advertised them as new years left over sales. Now I have a TV thats suppose to last around 200,000 hours at least, but probably won't make it through its 3rd year of life.
They don't use cheap parts, they use left over parts from all the other companies. They have a higher failure rate because they are all mixed and matched components on the inside.

Indeed. I just upgraded from a lcd 32 inch to a 50 led and by god.. its just weird its like I'm focusing too hard or something but the scenery sure is beautiful on it :)

Its all about their input lag, they do all kinds of extra processing on the inputs they receive, this has no effect on movies or television but that 0.2-0.3 seconds input lag means, you are sleeping with the fishies when you see something 0.3 seconds too friggin late, especially now when TTK is sub 1 second.
Also when you get to the point you need to turn your head instead of adjust eyes to see something = you starts to die allot, the best size is around a 23-24" pc screen, i have a a 27" and when i see something on the borders i need to adjust my head sometimes, not optimal but it works.
PS: ive got a cinema screen the size of my wall with a 1080p LCD Projector, tried it once :p ...its awesome ...but you are eating more Dust then getting kills on it :p

PS Display sucks monkey balls. It turns off on me in crucial moments. I'm in a gunfight? I got you *turns off* WTF. Half of my deaths are because of that.
Only things I like are the definition and 3D that I don't use anymore. Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy was beautiful in 3D. |

This. This is why cheap manufacturers will go through a dozen different models of the same exact TV in a fairly short timespan. Ever wonder why cheap manufacturers have a BZ45X9001B and a BZ45X9001C TV that are the same size, specs, price, etc? 'Cause it's mostly the same TV with different leftovers in one place or another. |
