So I was reading the description of the drop uplink and it got me thinking. According to the games description the drop uplinks cause a small localized wormhole that exposes anything travelling through it to massive doses of radiation.
This implies that everytime you spawn at a drop uplink your clone is actually doomed to an impending death of radiation sickness, cancer etc. But I guess that since it's a combat clone and it isn't expected to live longer than like 20 minutes (roughly the length of time a battle takes), the Mercs of New eden probably dont care about possible radiation sickness or cancer, and that's why nobody makes a fuss over using the eventually lethal drop uplinks.
Now, this got me thinking: what else wouldn't a combat clone need if it's only expected to live for a few minutes? For instace, would a combat clone "need" a digestive system? If the assumption is that a clone is a "consumable asset", then being able to eat and digest nutrients would be somewhat redundant.
So why not grow the clone to maturity, surgically remove it's intestines and then perhaps implant something a little more useful in the newly available space? Perhaps like a bomb wired to go off of the clone dies with the possibility of taking it's killer with it? Or perhaps a drop uplink that activates upon death?
Wouldn't cybernetic implants like these (and others) make sense in the game setting and also give the players more interesting options beside dropsuit fittings? |

Yes, but being Mercs as we are, and obligated to fund our own clones and equipment shouldn't we have "options" in regards to clone quality and functionality? After all, we have the choice of buying weapons, dropsuits, vehicles, modules etc. of varying degrees of quality and ease of manufacture. Shouldn't we have the same degree of freedom in regards to the clones themselves? After all it would be in synch with free market capitalism that makes the Empires of New Eden so great. ;)
Also, Eve pilots have a choice in clone quality (albeit only in regards to skillpoints they can contain in case of a pod-death, but the spirit is the same as in my proposal) Seems only fair that Dust Mercs should have something similar. |

Exactly, but we ONLY have the boosters and the consciousness-transfer implant. I'd argue that theres plenty of room for more cybernetic augmentations.
It should be available if people are willing to pay the isk for it. |

Yes, and if I am willing to pay for the additional costs then no one should object to it. It's my hard earned isk after all. If I want to spend it on a pack of "deluxe"-clones with more advanced cybernetic enhancements, then that's my choice isn't it?
Lore-wise it would fit. Now let's talk game mechanics shall we? ;) |

As such most races tend to shy away from modifying the human -too- much. (That said, clones are already basically just masses of super-dense muscles, steroids, adrenals, and nanites. From what I understand, it's not the clone that allows us to walk around in heavy armor but the heavy armor itself being powered with joint-servos motivated by a system of negative feedback sensors tuned in to the wearers movements. (aka "Power Armor")
Can you cite a source that suggest that heavy armor is in fact unpowered? |

Perhaps for comical effect, like the suicide anal-bomber that tried to kill that head of the Saudi security agency?
Are you suggesting that we can't find a bomb powerful enough to turn all that super-dense clone goodness into super-lethal shrapnel? (the denser the armor, the more lethal the shrapnel become once you apply sufficient explosive force to shatter it)
The remote explosives in the game seems to do a pretty decent job of killing other clones, and you could easily fit one inside a clone body if you removed something less vital (like the digestive system).
