I did my Masters in Film Scoring and then wrote music / did sound design for some indie games and films. I've played guitar, as a kid trumpet, and am very terrible at keyboard (but I use it for composing).
Now I spend a lot of my spare time producing music and staring at large projects in Cubase.:) Any other audio production geeks here?

Indeed it is. Personally I've never been a fan of inverted necks, but the matte black color looks sweet. |

Ahhh, I used Logic a bit during my Masters. Not a huge fan. Plus - I'm a PC user so Logic isn't available anyway! I'm so accustomed to Cubase that everything else feels unnatural (although I've been meaning to try out FL Studio for pulling together grooves).

I was the rhythm guitarist for a metal band called Veneno Mortal which fell apart. Afterward I founded the band Ascension of Corruption as the lead guitarist and we did pretty well for a while until the drummer quit and we all moved on. Right before getting a sponsorship from Jaegermeister no less.
Ascension of Corruption was my baby. Tech Death with a Groove twist in places.
Ascension of Corruption - Re-igniting The Dying Sun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEh0CloRrdQ Wrote this bit entirely with the drummer and the vocalist. Whoever was recording it was terrible for standing right next to the bass cab and as a result the leads were completely lost, lol. Edit: Also, much to our disappointment, we come to find out this venue didn't allow moshing...
I play a Peavey Rotor EXP and Peavey Vicious II - both are stock apart from the strings which we had to use custom Curt Magnon's (local brand).
Use a Blackstar HT Stage HT-100H 100W Tube Head with a custom built 4x12 cabinet that has two different Celestion speakers, I can't remember what they are though (it's been four years afterall).
From the old band, though I'm not particularly proud of how it came out: Veneno Mortal - Plague Riders: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ziIHHIgSzhE Wrote all the guitar parts save for the solo. Vocalist got better in Ascension of Corruption when we started played in a lower tuning to benefit his vocal range (poor bastard)

I play guitar. I record my own stuff and do all the instruments and vocals. I record and mix everything in Reaper. I've been playing for 25 years. I have numerous songs that I'm working on. Just trying to find the time to complete them. I play a EVH Wolfgang, Line Six 150 watt amp head with 4 X 12 cab.
Here is a link to a few things I have done.

Another 25 year musician here. Although, I have to say, I haven't written **** since I started playing Dust. I was already taking a break when I started playing. I got seriously burnt out from sitting in front of monitors all day. Sadly, I haven't had much interest in going back until I started thinking about writing music for Dust. Turned my gear on for the first time in 6 months just a week ago. Trying to get back into the swing with some Dusty inspiration. Actually feeling a little hyped about it now that I've seen everyone here.
My primary instrument is bass guitar with drums and percussion trailing close behind. However, I rarely touch my instruments when making music because of the palette that electronic music can provide. I get pleasantly lost in sound design. Some guys mentioned their preferred DAW. I have to say that after using Cubase, Nuendo, and Logic, Ableton provided the best workflow hands down. I've even used it for FOH. Reason is a lot of fun, FL is fun, and Pro Tools is necessary for the industry but simply got boring. It was odd getting used to the Ableton interface at first but once you get rollin, it's quick. I didn't used to like the summing so I would render the stems and mix down in Nuendo but I no longer need to. |

If there are any guitarists/bassists out there that haven't tried it yet, record yourself with a click track in your cans. Play random riffs even if they are out of key, slice that shizz up a bit (nothing too crazy) and rearrange. You'll come up with something completely different depending on how deep you go. It can really help with your playing if you're feeling kind of stale. Best part, you can already play everything you just created, you just have to teach yourself to do it in that particular way. To the peeps that have been editing audio in their DAW, this is old news but I am still surprised at how many people I mention it to that have never done it. |

Sorry to ruin this thread, but I thought that DEVs had ALTS and all that....
Why can't they post posts like this with their alt?
It's not that we see some blue tags on actual usefull threads...
Next thing is that they are wondering why some people think they suck at communicating. |

People love to give FL Studio or "Fruity" as it affectionaly known a bad name but know this, "A bad workman blames his tools".
FL Studio 10 is a beast of a program! I am the other way around to you, I have tried using things like cubase but found I am so used to fruity that everything else bar reason feels so strange!
I think I only like reason because it reminds me of Guitar Rig - Yea budding guitarists out there - Guitar Rig is a sweet little piece of software too!

Will also probably create a musicians chat channel. Check out the NiER soundtrack
Have you checked out the piano collections? They're my favorite pieces of piano I've ever heard.
Here's one on The Wretched Automatons: Ryuichi Takada - The Wretched Automatons (Piano Collections NieR Gestalt & Replicant)
EDIT: I forgot to mention my instrument. I play the piano and have been for like 5 years or more probably, but I still really suck at it because I've never actually followed lessons. I just teach myself all these songs I like.
