They slowed down the projectile speed. It's now more difficult to hit a moving target, especially at range. Dropships are the hardest to hit, for obvious reasons.
Infantry cries for tank changes, and they don't like them. Tell them to use vehicles, they complain, and use cars anyway

Also it would probably break the lore as these guns are super powerful, and are actually capable of shooting star ships... hurr durr I would imagine the railguns mounted on EVE ships to be considerably larger than what's on tanks.

Also, you're talking about a weapon system that has a huge range, something much further than WWII battleships that fired from the sea onto land targets.

So no, for the ranges in this game, rail slugs should not suffer drop.
