Since it can be used against infantry as well as vehicles and installations, i think the Plasmacannon should be less efficient than weapons specialised for a specific role. That seems crucial to not overshadow and thus replace all of those.
Right now, the cannon seems to be quite far away from that thought. A direct hit is strong enough to OHK most suits, but is very easy to dodge. The size of the AOE is rather small compared to weapons like the fast firing mass drivers and ever present locus grenades, the AOE damage rather weak.
Plasmacannon: 3,5m AOE size on all tiers 285 - 313,5 AOE damage depending on tier
Mass Driver: 4 - 4,4m AOE size 116 - 127,6 AOE damage
Locus Grenade: 6 - 7,2m AOE size 400 - 600 AOE damage
Against vehicles the Swarm Launcher, while recently weakend and not being able to attack infantry, is still by far the better choice, thanks to self aiming missiles.
Direct damage of Plasmacannon: 1050 - 1150, depending on tier Direct damage of Swarm Launcher: 880 - 1320, depending on tier, if all missiles hit
The Plasmacannon has a very limited ammo supply, needs to be reloaded after every shot, fires with a delay and an arc, which makes it a challenge to aim, while the shots themself fly slowly, and thus are easy to doge. Compared to alternatives it requires a lot of CPU (71 - 117), while dealing less dps... And yet, it is such a fun weapon! One that i'd like to see more often on the battlefield. One that could also be a help to keep tanks and such at bay, if it would be more present.
And because of all that: May i ask for a slight, and hopefully easy to implement increase in AOE and direct hit damage of about 10 - 20%? It would be interesting to test out if and how much that would shift the scale. |

IMO, being a Gallente weapon, it should -feel- Gallente. High damage, low range. Instead it has some pretty insane range (I've gotten kills out in the 150-200m range from having high elevation) and it does less damage than a Forge Gun. Which isn't bad, Forge Gun is a heavy weapon and all, but in the same sense it's always been in this "Not a forge gun, not a mass driver" position that's far less effective than both.
I'd be satisfied if they took another look at the damage and range. Wouldn't even need to touch the projectile speed if it did a lot of damage.

Being of Gallente design it really should take after the blasters of EvE; short ranged, single-fire, above average RoF and face-melting damage. That being said, I still like to have one handy for those instances where a heavy burns up to you in his LAV and jumps out expecting another easy kill. It's priceless.

So it's a good job KDR doesn't bother me, really.

The latest vehicle changes have rendered it useless in AV before it was ok, you could cause a HAV problems with it
I don't want to see the weapon change too much, I am happy with how it performs
I do want to see it get back to its previous strength in AV atm it's tricky to even drop a LAV |

Swarms have the large drawback on not hitting infantry at all and not having control of where it hits tanks. The plasma cannon can be fired at weak points for large amounts of damage. Also being a plasma weapon it gets +10% to shields while the swarm gives -20% and the forge -10%. This makes it the only sheild effective AV weapon so far.

I'm not an EVE player, so i do not know much about the lore regarding the weaponry of New Eden. That said, i like the concept of the weapon as it is right now. That includes the long range. Seems appropriate for a cannon that size.
I just wish it would be more viable. Increasing the AOE and direct damage seems like a good way to archive that, without changing the weapon itself. The Plasma Cannon doesn't need to be that great against infantry or vehicles... Just efficient enough in both to make that it's strengh. One that is big enough for people to want to run around with it.
The only shield effective AV, right. I missed that factor. Good point, Kilo. Not a big enough advantage in it's current state though, otherwise more people would use it.

Little confused... How do you see having a "single fire, above average ROF" weapon? Single fire is the slowest possible ROF you can have.
I could see having a 2 shot magazine at std and adv level and firing as fast as you can pull the trigger but having a long reload time. Proto level has 3 shot magazine. |

@Fremder V1
The bonus damage could be weapon specific but something like 40 or 50 percent, I'll check and repost.
The weak spots are on the back ends on Gallente armoured tanks it in the center and on the caldari shield tanks it's on the thing that I find looks like some batteries
The one shot thing is a mystery to me. Three would be more appropriate I think

Regardless of who makes it, its what appears to be a take on an rpg. I wouldnt change a thing except maybe a little more projectile speed with increased drop so it has about the same range but more of a hit likelihood

personally I'm against any buff to the PLC because I love the weapon and if its buffed it will just be nerfed in some way that will break it. That said I would like to see a PLC that gets a 7-10m splash at a reduction of splash dmg to say 100-150 or MD level. That said I would love to see |
