I am still fairly new to dust at 5 months, and I have always loved flying. Now more than ever I feel like I can discover the battlefield and ferry troops to hotspots without the fear of insta popping. I like the changes, but still feel some things need work.
Here's my problem: I started flying ADS gallente and I have always had a bias towards HMGs. So naturally I equipped the blaster on the nose. i am not skilled enough to take side guns and have armour hardeners. But what is the blasters designed role? I have tried to fly low and shoot vehicles, but most times there shields recharge faster than my turret can do damage. Other times I run out ammo and need to reload, and by that time the vehicle has regained plenty of hp. Infantry are too small and I drift quite a bit, but I am trying to improve this. I hope I can practice more and be able to kill infantry with my blaster alone. What has been happening lately is I drop so low and open fire, but I eventually squish the foe, I think that is. It only says kill and I don't see anything in the kill feed, maybe I missed it though.
The point am I trying to make is I don't quite know what the designed role of the blaster is, as I am not able to really impact much on e battlefield. Do I just need practice with it? Or is the missile the only dropship weapon, but then why have Gallente ships be proficient with blasters?
Maybe as a pilot I can only take a missile? And my gunners can have blasters?
I just really like firing the blaster, makes me feel important.

That is good advice everyone. I really like the idea of the rail nose for added dps, makes a lot of sense. I guess I will practice more and learn to stabilize and use the little reticle. I will play with the blasters some more before moving to the rail. Plus, I can't have side guns on my ADS yet.
Eyes to the sky for VTMFAME: watch ya armour nuggets!

Yea, I agree that the blaster feels like a limp noodle. I hope it gets looked at.
I have used a rail before and hit vehicles decently well, but a downside is that although it tears through shields, it seems to have trouble with armour. Plus with crazy hp regen without support it is not worthwhile to chase around any tank. However, if their shield is gone they may retreat, which means the rail may be better at harassment than missiles.
I will keep trying the blasters though, cause nothing is sweeter than an ADS meters off the ground blazing guns to "GLORY OF THE HYPNOTOAD"

Ap?
Yea, it just doesn't do enough damage to stop shields from regenerating. That's one of the biggest issues. Too bad it is not like a shot gun at the same distance. That might make it more comparable to the capabilities of the missile. It would also be more functional as a nose gun.

Yea, I'm talking about the regen rate even when no hardeners are active. I pump a burst at my target, but by the time I reposition and can fire again the shield is back up. Really, if its comparable to small arms fire then naturally vehicles have been designed to resist blaster turrets, but the of hitting infantry seems difficult too. Maybe if I ran some damage mods and sp the skill tree out I would see a different story. But it's time consuming and risky to save and spend a mil sp just to test something out.
I wish dynamic sp was a thing. Where once every couple of weeks you could salvage a mil sp from your character and reinvest it. I think this would greatly improve testing of new fits, adjusting to game changes, and represent how humans adapt and learn new skills.
I know some may see that as a soft respec and say you get unlimited sp, but training up skills takes too long, even with boosters, and as such I don't think it represents how fast we can adapt to new situations or changing game environments.

Ah, makes sense. I am going to do some more flying today. Maybe with more practice I can work out how to use the blaster. One thing I noticed though is that I am a huge distraction and can get quite a few assists. I drop myself right above a bunch of reds, use both hardeners, run a scan, unleash my blaster and draw a lot of attention. As a result players take their eyes off my blues and they usually get mowed down in the cross fire.

Lol, I have tried air to air. I run into the same issue of not doing e ought damage to beat most passive regen. Also the typical range of most dog fights is outside the effective range of blasters? You can get so close, and missiles just seem to never lose any power when they hit.
