This is basically a nitpick, but it seems that all weapons, vehicles and dropsuits are aligned with the four factions. You wouldn't know that from looking at the items, apart from maybe some hints in the descriptions, though.
In the end, factions in this game really don't matter outside of FW. But I made a Gallente character and recently started outfitting myself with Gallente equipment, because why the hell not? I didn't even know that, for example, the Scrambler Rifle is an Amarr weapon until I read it here on the forums.
So, basically, the idea would be to give each weapon a faction logo or something.
But maybe the real issue here is that factions don't really matter. |

If everything was labeled and made obvious it would start to feel like many of the other (boring) FPS games out there. So to that end; each faction weapons does indeed have its own GÇ£characterGÇ¥ to distinguish each weapon from each other, like you have requested;
- Amarr - Laser based and golden weaponry, also if you look close you can see relief art work GÇ£carvedGÇ¥ into their weaponry.
- Caldari - Magnetic Rail technology, blue steel in colour with plenty of straight lines.
- Gallente - Molten plasma, metallic green; uses plenty of lights with circles and often their models and architecture is rounded, curved and sleak.
- Minmatar - Good old gunpowder and explosives, red rust in colour. Their weaponry often looks like its being held together with duct tape and has been assembled with brute will alone. (similar to how Orcish technology from 40k works)
So there it is, they do have their own character and looks so you can tell them apart from each other. I know its not often pointed out or made obvious but its something (IMO) that gives New Eden more depth and gives the players something more to find out and discover on their own.

It would give the game more flavor if it was less uniform.
Currently, a player reads about the factions at character creation, gets a faction-aligned standard loadout and never realizes that the factions even have different approaches to equipment. You only sort-of realize that either by reading an associated website or by making another character and paying attention to the new blueprints that you get.
No, I don't want everything to be obvious. I love the flying coffins that are the dropships and I'm all okay with a steep learning curve. (I enjoyed the beginning of E.Y.E. the most, when the game made an impression of being hugely intricate with bad explanations instead of the straightforward affair that it turns into when you finally fully grasp it. Also, don't you dare misread that as "EVE") But there's a difference between "hidden detail" and "kind of important fluff aspect that is effectively so inconsequential that you wouldn't even notice it, no matter how much you play".
Simply symbolizing alignment would help immersion, by making it more obvious that yes, these factions are actually different and use different doctrines.
P.S. Your small explanation is useful. It should be available for all players to read and not hidden in this thread. That's what the thread is about. |

Fun Fact that made me love the Minmatar: They're constantly tricking people into thinking their weapons are terrible. While they do have the most primitive weapons, and the most ugly ones, it's actually by design. See, way back when there was an arrangement made between the Caldari and the Minmatar. This is why you see stuff like the "Ishukone Assault Submachine Gun". The Ishukone corporation often work with the Minmatar. But if that's the case, why doesn't Minmatar weapons/suits/equipment look a bit nicer? Because the Minmatar have the most genius weapons, in a way.
Tell me this, can you go out with your GEK-38, find a random bolt or screw on the ground, and use it to modify your weapon in a serious way? No! Can you do that with a Sniper Rifle? Laser RIfle? Nope and nope. Minmatar weapons, however, are made out of trash. Almost literally. You could easily go out with a Mass Driver, find some kind of part that broke off of an Assault Rifle, and use it to repair/modify your Mass Driver. So, while Minmatar weapons aren't the most durable, or the most pretty things in the world, it doesn't matter. Because they could easily be fixed in a bad situation. Hell, you rip off part of your suit and use it to patch your weapon together.
When talking about the Funcionality:Aesthetic ratio, it goes as follows. 1) Caldari. The whole Caldari's "thing" is that they value functionality over looks. And even then, it's BARE MINIMUM (Why the Caldari Medium suit only have a couple plates on it). 2) MInmatar. For the reason above. 3) Gallente. Weapons/Suits usually have the most utility out of everything, but also manage to make it look nice. Dunno how they do it. 4) Amarrian Technology. I'll post something cool about these guys in a second. Basically, they engrave lots of stuff on their weapons, but their weapons are the most unstable of them all.
