It was a good patch in the sense that it entertained most of the current playerbase, but aiming, shooting, and moving are still subpar. Aiming doesn't feel right because of the inconsistant framerates. Shooting doesn't feel right because of the wonky hit detection. Moving around the battlefield does not feel right because you are always glitching on the terrain, coming to a complete stop because of a 2 inch curb (cliff), getting caught on a pointless protusion on a wall, and being forced to stand around for 6 (eternity) seconds waiting for enough stamina to regenerate so you can barely jump over a rail or invisible wall on the terrain. Oh, and that damn sprint bug You make good points, do you use auto aim BTW? I ask because I find that I am more true with it off. Yes, pathing needs an overhaul. I hate when I play a heavy and have to jump over that top step. I hate when I play a plated suit I can't jump over that banister that I can in my shield tanked suit. But that is part of the beauty of DUST, your fit matters on the battlefield. Granted, they do need to fix the terrain so you don't get stuck but I feel that is coming. I get stuck a lot less on new maps than I do old ones.

Which is very sad really.

If it makes you feel any better, Dust 514 was included in Massively's Best of 2013 Awards.
It won the Biggest Disappointment award. So it's got that going for it, which is nice. |

Why does IGN have to re-review this game? This game does suck ass. I try and try to like this game I'm getting to the point that I'm going to delete this game and not look back. There is more BS that goes in this game that it makes playing BO2 a joy. |

I don't care if IGN gave Dust a positive review. I don't trust any of their reviews. Period.

Gamespot did a re - review... didn't go well either.
I don't know, but I think people are just blinded by DUST. You might not like what reviewers have to say, but they're spot on with some of their reviews. In reality DUST is nothing more than a lobby shooter, using some elements of RPGs, with poor mechanics, and using EVE as its "next big thing in FPSs".
DUST still offers very little for new players. They play a few days, realize the grind is ridiculous, realize people have 20+ million SP headstart, with no chance to catch up, and call it quits. If that wasn't enough, then getting proto stomped would make their mind up.
The game is still suffering from frame rate issues. Balance and roles are still lacking. Missing suits, and missing weapons.... 2 YEARS HEAVIES HAVE 1 WEAPON AND 1 RACE!
DUST deserves the scores it's getting. I haven't said anything here that isn't true.
The only thing it has going for it, is that it's a F2P game, and not pay to win... in facts, there's nothing worthwhile paying for except boosters.

Agreed. I love Dust in all the lives I've lost, but damn it was hell before I knew what I was doing. I played maybe two games in Chromosomes, got wrecked, left. Came back, found a Corp, now I'm hardcore. But not that many corps can reach all these new players, I'm pretty sure half of them don't even know Dust HAS a forum...IGN shouldn't review Dust, I could do it for you with 7 million SP as my Resume
Mechanics and Graphics:
Compared to Call of Duty and Battlefield 3, Dust is still lacking many small mechanics, and those are OUTDATED Games already. Being able to vault over objects like rails, slide into cover, lean, makes Dust seem relatively linear. Run up to a person, get into pretty awesome gun fight for five seconds, repeat. However, when massive outcrops of cover are used to jump in and out, or massive firefights occur, Dust is very fun. The new amounts of tanks makes Dust seem much more fun when there is a war front going on, and if Drop-ships become more common, Dust would gain far more epic explosions of hunks of metal fall from the air, and into the ground. Hit Detection on Dust has improved greatly since May, except for Snipers, who are few and far between in terms of dedication. My best friend, Ensar Cael notes that while sniping can occur at extreme ranges( he once made a kill at 700 meters), half the time the game won't render, which is a problem. Dust also does not have an amazing Color palette as does the bright colors of KillZone 2. Enviornments are servicable, but there is nothing that jumps out and makes you say, "Holy crap that looks awesome." unless of course you are watching two or more Dropships engage in dogfights while tanks fight underneath. It's getting there, but so far Dust earns a 7/10 for Mechanics and Graphics. It's missing some rather obvious elements, but it is entertaining and damn gorgeous when not suffering from the Frame-Rate drops like seem to plague players but never myself.
Content:
Dust is steadily adding content with monthly releases. These are both liked and hated, as is with any community as passionate as this one. Since Uprising, Dust has added:
Flaylock Pistols, Plasma Cannons, The Combat and Rail Rifles, The Commando Suit, and other Aurum tanks. There were probably more, but I can't remember them. More content such as Cloaking has been confirmed, but as to when, well Dust is notorious for leaving players in the dark for a while. Unlike almost every other shooter, Dust does not have conventional customizations for guns e.g. attachments, paints. It does however have an amazing progression system which while convoluted, is vast. CCP has stated it would take around 7 years to fully unlock everything they have, but I'm not sure this is the case if I were to play 8 hours a day. No idea, maybe a Vet could testify? There is also a myriad of different Dropsuit choices, but as many suits are shown to be either used ineffectively, or just are outclassed, many people are just becoming Combat Logis, killing Diversity. For content, Dust earns an 8/10 for continual releases that are often better than they are horrid. There is around 50 more items Dust can implement, which will greatly add to the game. For not having them though, my review score should probably be lower...
New Player Experience:
Hell on Eden. Honestly, it just is. After a relatively short tutorial where players know there Neocoms and all, they are thrown into a fight at the Academy. Small matches do not highlight the true workings of combat, and there is no automated voice to tell players or remind them what they should probably do as in the numerous other RPGs that exist. This matches New Eden as a harsh place, but not when Dust is so precariously balanced. Vets with upwards of 40 million SP will show almost no mercy to even me with my 7 million, and Protostomping is very prevalent, although the multitudes of Tanks( Thank you for this CCP) has lessened this practice. Players are also not taught how to spend their ISk, the In-game Currency, and that is a problem when because most players spend much of their ISK on unlocking Skill books, which they do not know how to use. Corps like the Learning Coalition, and Dust University are around to help, but until September( and I've been playing since May), even I didn't know about these Corps, and I surely did not know of this forum. New players( blueberries) are very isolated in Dust, and those who I run across, I try and help. However, not many have microphones, which is very infuriating because of the slow typing of Dust's chat channels, which take a while. Not bashing them too hard because I don't have a solution to fix them, just noting on them. Players are also not informed of the weight Factional Warfare carries, and if a new player goes into that ISK sink and dies, they will be hard-pressed to continue the game. After Academy CCP, please show players a list of Corps that they should apply to. This can even be a PLAYER EVENT. The Corps that want their names featured can compete in mock Planetary Conquest battles to see which is better. The top ten that win would be featured; Learning Coalition and Dust University automatically on there of course. From a previously new player who went through such hell, 4/10
So yeah, those are my main points. Love Dust though, to death...
You are nothing to me, just as I am nothing in a world of Dust

Maken Tosch wrote:I don't think any business like IGN or GameInformer should do any more reviews yet until Dust 514 has at least most of the core features implemented. We're not even 50% done yet with the core features. Putting out another review on a game on this current state will not help with CCP's public relations on the game.
PS: I hate IGN anyways. They are a bunch of sell outs and EA's lapdog.
This. Why are we trying to condemn Dust? Another mass review will do more harm that help and I can't stand to read those negative reviews whether or not they're legitamate or not because we haven't reached out potential. I rather we get a new review when Dust comes to the PS4 or at least when when we have a better intergrated EVE-DUST market, more meta connections, more lore(last talked about thing was the Eon War and that's barely talked about), more gear, a better separation between the player groups(casual, competitive, and social/economic), and better mechanics.
Seems like we'll need like two to three years but maybe CCP can speed it up in 2014 :< and maybe even gain more paying customers so they can have more workers to help release stuff.
