Kidding me?
It's ideal for me to get people into 1v1s, especially in open grounds. I know we all run the Commando differently, but I have to object to a few things ever now and then. I run the standard SCR and RR. My specialty with the Commando is mid range. As long as I avoid close quarters (spare for when in enclosed spaces, since that is where I get my real jollies from with the RR oddly enough) and those goddamn snipers. Only problem with my A-I is that it is a standard, which means it has no slots, which means it cannot rep itself or use a damage mod. My advanced and prototype do though, which makes it unforgiving to use with the specialized SCR and an advanced RR. Especially the SCR, since I am prof'd in it (unlike RR). I carry nanohives with me.
Sidestepping a bit...
Some solid advice for the use of the Commando is to adapt it into a playstyle that you enjoy or are good at. For example, my medium frames are close to mid, but my scouts are close or long (which is a bit of a gruff at times). Heavies (outside of the Commando) are like my scouts, depending on FG or HMG. I like my A-I. It's the second manliest suit in the game. No highs, no lows. Fit for survival without modules.
What's the manliest suit, you ask?
Minmatar Scout. srsly. o7 to them.

I can't wait for the other Command'ohs to come out. Once the other ones get released I'll skill into one. I really want the GalMand'oh. The MinMand'oh might be purty sweet too I think. The CalMand'oh will be a lil iffy but it should be able to hold its own at longer ranges.

When I said avoid 1 v 1 I meant it as in, avoid 1 v 1 with proto bears, you'll get destroyed, you have a large hitbox, and your slow, so you will need to be packing a gallente AR or shotgun do deal with this CQC situations, it is partially my preference to avoid CQC situations so I equip a rr and AR.

Fire of Prometheus wrote:NOTICE: BUFF THE COMMANDO!!!! please bump if you agree with it We have had a full squad of 6 commandos!!!! And for the first time there has been 2 proto commandos in one match!!!! Also for the first time a squad of 6 commandos has won 3/3 matches they played in!!!! Each commando made a minimum of 900 WP each match. A total of 6 OBs was dropped over the course of those 3 matches. Let this be a testament that the commando is a viable unit on the battlefield!!!!! The glorious members that were a part of this near impossible undertaking are: Mini Rehak (as squad leader) Aero Yassavi Wurm food T'orq (on his alt, Thanjac) Fire Of Prometheus Pyrotechninja CCP, US COMMANDOS WILL NEVER BACK DOWN!!!!! EDIT: I forgot to add that we won 2/3 matches by outcloning the other team EDIT#2: if you want in on the action (provided everyone is still on) then go to the channel "commando squadron"
I remember you guys... lol... I switched from BPOs to a Cheap PROTO to hold the objective against you... lol... you guys took me and my friend (only two of us holding the objective) down twice apiece!! unfortunately we both were wearing NIs... but YES ... 6 v 2 you dropped 2 Orbies on us, managed to hack it once, while exhibiting very good tactics of spreading out to the flanks... and ultimately failed... you guys need a BUFF, NO WAY should my PRO Caldari Basic GEK-38 fit & my partners 'SEVER' fit (no matter HOW sooped up) should have won that battle. |

We definitely went for a whirlwind of a ride for the beginning of each match cause we basically improvised our gameplay the entire time :p
We found a proto gallogi who just followed us around the enitre match and probably wet himself laughing at a group of 6 Santa Claus dropsuits XD

I don't like using my Plasma Rifle. Sharpshooter IV, Prof. IV, Rapid Reload III, and I forgot what optimization I have. (II, I believe.) I prefer not using my prototype gear. I really don't, even on the Commando. It's really situational about whether you can or cannot engage high end gear users. I have this... habit of stalking people. I don't like engaging head on unless I'm moving in to soak some damage up for my allies. (Seriously, I step in front of people when I think they're taking too much damage. Old logibro habit.)
SCR, though not as strongly invested in as the Plasma Rifle, allows me to break down shield users easily, whereas the RR will allow me to pop the armor tankers. I will never engage (on my own) unless I know the number of enemies, their suit types, and their general locations. I've played for so long that it's just a glance to know their weapon and suit. Just have to keep in mind that if I can see them, it's possible that they see me.
I used to scout a lot, so I apply quite a bit of knowledge from it to my Commando, knowing I cannot engage in overwhelming odds. I also was a heavy for the longest time, so I have the feel for the sluggishness and size. In short, I play like a bastard. I will feed blues to the reds to get around to a better spot or to get out of enemy optimals.
My experience and use of the Commando may be vastly different to (for example) you, so results will vary between us. I'm not saying your way is wrong- it may be preferred to the upcoming Commandos. In retrospect, a fellow jack of all trades may find my way more appropriate. Then again, they may do something radically different. (For a while, I ran dual Plasma Cannon. It was hilarious. I don't think the Gunnlogis thought it were though.)

Meh potato potato (you know the saying) I was a logi and an assault before I went commando so I'm used to those moments were its 1 v 5 proto bears. I usually have a scanner on my suit so I can just flank the red and pop him from behind, and I plan my attack according to how many reds are present. I never leave cover unless needed, and when I do, I sprint to the closest cover regardless of who's there.....those scouts are fast
