This is a copy/paste of a post I made on another Active Scanner thread which I made into a new topic because I really feel like this issue needs to be adressed extensively. Link to thread mentioned: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=130089&find=unread My post on that thread:
Quote:I agree with most people who found pretty creative ways to nerf the Active Scanner (which really is kind of OP in my opinion). These days it's like I spawn on any random droplink, be it up high or down low, I get those annoying, red, mocking letters up top in my screen: "You have been scanned".
This seriously pisses me off everytime it happens. It removes any ability for me to flank people in this game and that sucks because flanking is really one of my greatest strengths in online shooters. I try flanking half the enemy team by spending 2 minutes sprinting around on foot only to get the message "You have been scanned" when I'm not even close to actually being in their visual range.
This is probably due to all scanners doing the f*cking 360-¦ scan dance like it's a pagan ritual dating back to ancient times. They should really make it so the Active Scanner actually scans how it's supposed to scan -> areas of 90-¦ in which the scanner is facing.
If scanners can just do the 360-¦ dance then there really isn't even a point in mentioning how big the scan radius is in degrees with the info text. If anything CCP could actually make use of the STD, ADV, PRO variants by making the STD version scan in 90-¦, the ADV version scan in 180-¦ and the PRO version scan in 360-¦.
For everyone about to flame me for not using Profile Dampeners. I'm running Minmatar Assault. I only have 2 low slots which I have to use for either a PG/CPU upgrade or a set of armor plates because my base armor hp is f*cking disastrous.
What are you guys' thoughts about this? Please, no name-calling or rudeness in this thread while discussing opinions. We are all adults here.
Love the sinner, hate the Sindromer.

Well, from what I've observed, doing the 360 scan dance greatly decreases the amount of time that the target is tagged. Besides that, active scanners really give the user away with the large red message.
However, I think the scan precision of them needs a nerf. You don't need to go past advanced active scanners unless for some reason you think a proto scout is going to stack profile dampeners.

Ok couple questions for you...
Please define "scanner spam". Is it any different than uplink, hive, nade, rifle, LAV, of tank spam?
Is it more important to have better counters to scanners of just nerf them? The Devs have announced they are actively working on a cloaking device.
Also, when I guy is scanning he's not actively engaging you...remember not to long ago when you had near perfect awareness of reds locations on the TacNet map and nobody had to do anything, skill into anything, purchase anything, or use an equipment slot? Is what we have better or worse?
Edit... I understand that you have a hard time fitting dampeners with your suit; but that's a specific case for your fittings and that suit in particular. I'm not saying it's tough to work fittings on your suit but you knew how many slots you had when you skilled into it. Also, you can skill into passive dampening that works pretty well to honest. |
