"It's cold," I thought as I lay there. Two months ago when I joined Outer.Heaven I never thought I would be here now, lying in a pool of my own biomass, waiting for judgment.
It was a better time then; people in the districts were happy and the ISK was plentiful for aspiring mercenaries. I was hesitant to join at first, after a few failed attempts of finding a home after the bunnies I felt like my best home was myself and tried to survive on my own. Now that I think about it I should have just stayed retired, although It's crazy how fast you can burn through 100 million.
One day on the battlefield a run across a former comrade in a squad of blueberries. Man it was a blast seeing him again. He told me of his weary days after the fall, said he had finally found a good home. They paid him well for his services and even had given him some land on one of the districts. It took him a few weeks of peer pressure to finally crack me, well that and dwindling number of my bank account. Eventually I reluctantly applied, and it couldn't have been better. They welcomed me with open arms, gave me a signing bonus and even my own plot of land! I was told that my former employment history had granted me instant access to benefits, and sure enough a week later I was being paid. I was finally happy, I had found a new home and could once again carry on with my gluttonous ways. Little did I know how short this euphoria would last.
It wasn't until a few weeks into my employment that I discovered how we acquired all of this land and money. O.H. had attacked STB and claimed the districts as their own. I should have known then something was wrong, should have seen this coming. I was told that STB had been using these districts and the occupants as slave grounds; that they administered harsh and quick sentences to anyone who even looked like they might misbehave. As a rising supercorp O.H. had felt it necessary to reign in the harsh rule of STB and help free the people, and so they came, and so they liberated. The districts were taken, spread out evenly among mercenaries and mortals alike. The money was redistributed amongst the population and the economy started to thrive. The people seemed happy enough, though whispers amongst themselves said O.H. had a more sinister long term goal in mind than to just "free the people." As a new guy it was hard to distinquish fact from fiction, but eventually the constant parroting of how we had done the right thing eventually stuck in my head. Funny to think now how they were right all along.
Eventually more rumors started to surface. Rumors of a renegade alliance forming in the dark parts of the universe. People were saying an ancient tribe of mercenaries exiled to null sec long ago had been spotted recently in low sec, and they were looking for something. If I had only known what they were looking for before the war I would have packed my bags and grabbed the next cargo ship off this godforsaken hunk of dirt. More talk surfaced of the alliance operating precariously close to our home planet. Speculations were that ANONYMOUS was illegally shipping weapons into null sec, with help from a group of unknown killers and were setting up shop on a durty planent. I tried to shrug it off, but damn my curiosity. After so long why would the exiles now come out of hiding. What were they looking for? Why did they want it? I wish I never knew. I went to sleep that night unknown of the horror the next few days would bring.
The next morning I woke up to a message, we were going to war. The Pro V. alliance leaders had enough of the slow push from the renegade alliance in to our territory, we were to remove them. Not just from our space, but from the universe. At first I was enthralled, too long it had been I had fought the good fight. We were to attack ANONYMOUS and the unknown killers at their home base on planet durty while PX1 was to land on the exiled planet for intel as to what they were looking for. We hired outside sources to help us, the task was daunting but we were told with the help we were receiving we should have no problem. I remember my heart pounding as the MCC left the warbage and broke atmosphere, remembering all the blessings the people gave us as we left home to protect it. My last bit of fear departed as did I from the MCC, activating my inertial dampener and touching down on the alien planet.
It was a massacre, the first few days of the war. There was nothing else it could be called. We had successfully attacked and landed on all enemy home points. ANON gave us little resistance, as if they were a mere shell of the terror they once were. Something seemed wrong. We weren't finding anything that gave reassurance to what we were doing. We pushed on though, promised to find something in the next district. It was all the same, small patches of resistance that offered no hope of a good fight. It wasn't until I pushed a little girl and her mom off a street being bombarded with gunfire that I learned the truth. ANON had just finished a brutal war with TSOL, and were home trying to recuperate from it. Made sense, they were nothing we told they would be. Intel had been received from PX1. The exiles had been looking for a planet used only as a maximum security prison. Rumor throughout the years had said members of the ancient tribe were being held there, the only thing people knew about the planet was it was called PS4. The intel though, oh how I wish I never heard the transmission. The exiles had found the planet. That was the last we heard from the landing team.
Their vengeance was swift. In the following days of finishing up the ANON homeplanet, we received news that every single one of our districts were under attack. Mass hysteria followed as mercenaries tried to make it home on time to save their families. We were too late though, the exiles had already landed and the leader declared martial law, not a single soul was to live.

I hear footsteps now. I close my eyes, accepting of my fate. I listen to them as they approach ever so slowly until they stop in front of me. The time seemed like it would never end. Just finish me already. To my surprise I am lifted to my feet and my arm thrown over someones shoulders. I hear a familiar voice come over comms. I open my eyes and to my surprise my tacnet still works, and standing next to me is a red dot.
"It's okay, you're going to be ok."
I struggle and turn my head, and who I see is the last person I ever expected.
"Shh, don't talk you're hurt. It's okay I've got you." "Bu...but how? Martial la.." "I said don't talk. Besides, the killfeed says you're dead old comrade. Everyone has a day to die, but today is not your day."

Sorry man. I originally wanted it to be about twice as long, but I wrote it 2 or 3 sentences at a time any extra minute I got at work, and the 6000 character cap really snuck up on me fast. I was ansy to post it so I had to snip it down a bit. I tried to mention you a few times with the planet but I know I did a bad job of getting you in there.
