Number from 0 to 3 after the the suit type to signify tier. 0 = militia, 1 = standard, 2 = advanced, 3 = prototype.
Number in parentheses is the total HP. Weapon and equipment abbreviations. Lowercase letter before the abbreviation signifies variant (aSCR = assault scrambler rifle). I also do the same for grenades, avG = AV grenades, locG = locus grenades, fluG = flux grenade.
I add a number after the abbreviation of weapons specifically, but only if its advanced or prototype; 2 for advanced, 3 for prototype. I won't bother with the number if the variant makes it obvious; for example, I will put "SCR2" to signify advanced regular scrambler rifle, but I won't bother putting a number at the end of "aSCR" since the fact that its the assault variant already lets me know its advanced or higher; if higher than advanced, I add a number. I should put a "aSCR3" for a prototype assault scrambler rifle (3 meaning prototype) but I just write it as "caSCR" since the "ca" means "Carthum" to me (protype assault scrambler rifle is Carthum).
I end fits with a price tag rounded to the next hundred ISK. Prototype fits have no price tags because if i'm using them, then I don't care about losing money.
examples: AST1 (571) aSCR/SMG/NH/avG 31.3 assault dropduit standard with 571 total shields and armor + advanced assault scrambler rifle + standard SMG + nanohive + AV grenade = 31,300 ISK
AST2 (667) CR2/SMG/AS/fluG 50.2 assault dropsuit advanced with 667 total shields and armor + advanced combat rifle + standard SMG + active scanner + flux grenade = 50,200 ISK
Edit: I should start separating the weapons, equipment, and grenades with a dash instead of a slash
I really am now tempted to add another letter for the manufacturer of weapons...I have to check how many of my fits have characters left. The number tier system works phenomenally, the only reason I don't use it is because I seldom use anything above advanced level. 0123 is a good way to put things in order of damage output...I'm thinking sniper rifles in particular.
The HP value is a good idea. I try to keep all of my similar fits in the same HP range so I don't have to do this. The price tag is really relevant though, and my system generalizes it a bit too much. Like you said about your proto fits, if I need a specific suit for a specific situation (Ishukone Assault Forge Gun ), the price tag is the last thing I want to think about.
Oh, and I prefer to use 5+ for militia/budget fits because it sends them to the bottom of the list where I don't have to look at them. I use 0's for either mains or practice projects.
This is a good system I might have to steal your price tags.

I usually just attach a name that fits the suit build: Uplink = Scout suit with an uplink (duh) which serves as my default suit Chaos = my rarely, rarely used heavy suit Death = sniper build Boomer = sniper build but with REs instead of a nanohive, for when I may not have the best line of sight on the node I'm covering Cheap = disposable CQC build Ninja = dampened scout with shotgun and REs Dash = scout suit with nanohives War = my optimal CQC build...but too expensive to use on a regular basis until I "get good" Shadow = cheap medium frame CQC suit with a dampener thrown on Thale = my pretty, pretty precious I think there's a few more, too...

I name all my fits after their intended purpose, not for the loadouts they have. I use a simply system of prefixes and abbreviations to seperate my fits quickly and easily.
My names consists of two parts, first is a three letter abbrevation, explaining the race and type of dropsuit in use. First two letters are the race of the suit, GL for Gallente, CL for Caldari, MN for Minmatar and AM for Amarr. The third letter is the size of the suit, L for light, M for medium and H for heavy. After that I make a dash and a one/two letter abbrevation to explain the role of the suit.
For instance, I have the following Scout G-1 fit:
CRG-3 Shotgun 'Toxin' ICD-9 Submachine Gun Locus Grenade Remote Explosives
Basic Light Damage Modifier Basic Armor Repairer Basic Armor Plate
The intended purpose of this fit is to defend around hacked null cannons. Well-timed grenades take out hunkered down enemies, and remote explosives hold down chokepoints. Light damage modifier gives my advanced shotgun enough damage to down most enemies with two or three shots, and my armor plate and repairer help me stay alive and less dependent on repair tools.
This fit is named GLL-D, which stands for Gallente Light, defense.
I name all my other suits this way, and it helps keep everrything neatly organized and easily recognizeable.

For important suits I usually just put a ' in front and behind to make it go to the top.
For dropships I use to do a prototyping phase to test new fits. I would give it a random code of letters and numbers eg. Xv-7, Z-39, V-44 etc if the fit proved useful or effective I would then give it a formal name based on the type of ship it was and duties it preformed. My prized python fit I named simply, the doombringer. Sadly there really isn't any interesting ways to fit pythons anymore so I have abandoned this method. RIP doombringer, you served me well. |

Midas Fool wrote:This thread is simply to see how different players organize and share their mass of dropsuit fittings. I would not mind some criticism of my methods. As I am not a pilot, I will not be including vehicle fittings.
To organize my 30 (please give me more) crappy fits, I use a naming system with prefixes and abbreviations with some punctuation to separate weapons and equipment. For example:
1 - CMFA aRR/SMG//NH
Numbers denote the general power (or cost) of the fit with 1 being generally all STD fits all the way to 4's being full proto. I reserve 5's for milita or budget fits.
Capital letters denote commonly known abbreviations of dropsuits, weapons and equipment. In this case this fitting is a Caldari Medium Frame Assault. All of the suits thus far have unique three or four letter combinations, for example, AHFS is Amarr Heavy Frame Sentinel, where AHFC is Amarr Heavy Frame Commando.
Lower case letters denote prefixes. In this example the "a" makes it clear that the weapon on this fit is an Assault Rail Rifle. Other letters work well as modifiers, for example, "m" for milita, "b" for breach, etc.
Single slashes separate weapon from weapon and equipment from equipment. Double slashes separate these two groups. Often I will overlook grenades unless they are integral to the fit, and then they would only be separated from weapons by single slashes. This is mostly because I usually run fluxes on everything anyway, but also because logi fits get a little too long.
Here are a few more examples: 1 - CMFL RR//AS/DU 1 - MMFL CbR//AS/NH/NI 2 - AHF aScR/aSMG 5 - mAHF FG/SMG/AV
...phew...ok...
Now when fittings are to be written down, I use the following relatively self-explanatory system. This is more for sharing a fit with someone or planning out potential fits before having specific dropsuit skills.
1 - CMFA RR/aScP//RE L Rail Rifle S Assault Scrambler Pistol G M-1 Locus Grenades X Remote Explosives = Enhanced Shield Extender = Enhanced Shield Extender - Basic Cardiac Regulator - Basic Armor Repairer
It works with pretty much all suits...
1 - GMFL bAR//AS/DU/NI L Breach Assault Rifle G Flux Grenades X Active Scanner X Drop Uplink X Nanite Injector - Enhanced Armor Plates - Basic Armor Plates
3 - AHFS HMG/aSMG/Flux S M209 Assault SMG H Boundless Heavy Machine Gun G Flux Grenades = Complex Heavy Damage Modifier - Basic Armor Plates - Basic Armor Plates - Complex Armor Repairer
Naturally I expect my systems to change (or break) as new weapons, equipment and modules enter the game. How do the rest of you guys organize your fits? Or do you at all? I welcome any criticism of my system; I'm sure it has some flaws somewhere. One that I am aware of is that is tend to neglect specific prices, which I am sure is crucial to some people. If anyone has a vehicle fitting system they are encouraged to share.
I am just so tired of talking about tanks tanks tanks....
TL;DR: I have a similar system, but include price, class, and tier as well.

After some trial and error this is the format i have settled on
1 [ A ] 54 ACR / ADV / AV / RE-HR-HR
1 = Used to sort the list. I try and place my most used suits in the first half dozen slots in the list.
[ A ] = Denotes the role of the suit. [ A ] for assault, [ S ] for sniper, [ I ] for infiltrator, etc
54 = Isk price of the suit, rounded. At a glance i know how much that suit is worth.
ACR = The primary weapon of the suit. ACR - Assault Combat Rifle. SG - Shotgun, SL - Swarm Launcher, etc.
ADV = The tier of both the dropsuit and the weapon. PRO for prototype, STD for Standard
AV = My grenades. I only include this section for flux and AV grenades. If i omit it i assume i'm running locus.
RE-HR-HR = My equipment, coded for brevity. In this fit I have a Remote Explosive and two nanohives that both have armor repair capacity. Regular hives are H, triage hives are HT, U for uplinks, S for scanner, etc.
I am omitting quite a bit of information, tiers of equipment / grenades. What sidearm, if any the suit has. But i find i actually need very little of that, and that information can really clutter up the tag. The pieces of information that I use most heavily are the price, the weapon, and what types of equipment fitted.
When selecting a fit I first choose the level of ISK i'm willing to spend on the match. Then i select the weapon that has the best range profile for where I will be fighting. Finally i decide upon what additional equipment i need to bring.

Most follow this pattern
Suit type, designated role
I.e.
Logi A/1 series-grenadier
So as you can probably guess, he has a mass driver.
Now for my more "special" fits....they follow something like this:
Suit type, Nickname
Eg. Commando AK.0 - "Orion"
As for vehicles, if I use said fit a lot, ill name it some thing different, I call my incubus "the phantom" EDIT: I just realized I already posted in this thread.....derp
