Today I ran an experiment attempting to find what causes more lag. On the menu were 2 types of equipment seen spammed heavily, Nano Hives and Uplinks.
Objective: Determine the cause of the lag
Test 1: 13 x2 Uplinks (me and a squad mate spamming them) Result: No Lag
Test 2: 7 x4 Nano Hives (proto level) Result: Significant lag, approximately 5-7s at a time in pulsing succession
Conclusion: The lag is caused by excessive Nano Hive bubble effects or swarm effects.
Recommendation: Optimize or eliminate the swarm effect, possibly just add an indicator to the HUD that shows distance and direction to the nearest of the Nano Hives (friendly) and make the opposing Nano Hive animation similar to the Uplink effect whereby they have a solid pipe or bar protruding from the center of them, we don't need to see the effective swarm range if it is causing us all to lag excessively.

Nanohives should go into "sleep" mode when friendly infantry isn't nearby, disabling the graphical effect.
And by nearby, I mean within 150% of its effective range.
What's the difference between an immobile Minmatar ship and a pile of garbage?
The pile of garbage looks nicer.

I like the sleep mode idea but can still see a problem with the graphical effect. When comparing the time of the pulse in lag to the pulse of a Nano Hive it was identical to the timing of the outflow of the bubble. This says to me that if everyone on both teams were to bring in Nano Hives to stand in and were to always be standing in them there would still be a problem, every swarm would be rendered and cause lag again.

I want to count Nano Hives in matches, Logis and Snipers can help me in this. If you are experiencing Lag please take a tally of the Nano Hives on field, in you local area and any you come across. Devs would be a better choice to do this with statistics from each battle and their help in this would be greatly appreciated.
Please post below any tallies you can take of Number of Nano Hives Deployed in your local area when lag becomes noticable.

Devs:
Lag occurs in matches with multiple hives deployed EVEN WHEN a player is nowhere near a hive. So are hives causing network nottlenecks thereby hindering packet throughput OR does the ps3 perform processing for each hive on the screen even if they are out of LOS? I know that, when my range extenders cause multiple shimmering hives to be displayed through walls, my frame rate does down the toilet.
Also, does Singularity trigger nanohive pulses for all connected players, in unison? Or does the client determine the timing of the pulses?
good luck with your gremlin hunt, o7
