Have mentioned this in a couple of threads and talked extensively with players in game about it. This is not a perfect system by any means but seems it could be a step in the right direction.
First, remove all bonus skill points for being in battle
Next every player receives a multiplier based on their rank in the kill board, the lower you score the more your points are multiplied. For example, player A places number 1 with 1000 war points and receives a multiple of 1.2 giving him 1200 skill points while player B places 16th with 25 warpoints and receives a multiple of 10 giving him 250 skill points.
Once a player has reached a certain skill point cap for the week their multiple receives a tiered multiplier such as 1-100k skill points = no multiplier 100,001 -200k means their total or their bonus multiplier (one of the things none of the people I talked with can agree on) is multiplied by .8 and this system continues with whatever tiers and multipliers are selected.
As the portion above is geared towards normalizing points with the higher WP gainers only receiving a small amount more than the lower gainers there would also be a pool of skill points awarded in much the same way that isk in battle is, where a larger portion goes to the winning team and then it is distributed also based on skill points. This would reward inactivity but only in the tiniest amount if you are on the losing team making AFKing a true gamble.
This is only meant to be the suggestion of a ground work which would hopefully reduce AFKing, incentivize winning, make playing the game too long less penalizing, and make boosters more valuable all while still allowing newbies to be rewarded if they try at all. The numbers I used are purely theoretical and would most likely be no where near the end numbers to make the system function properly. |

There are many problems I have attempted to solve with this idea.
Reduce AFKing Change the fact that players are effectively screwed once they have played a certain amount of matches by the skill point cap. Create more reason for players to want boosters and line CCP's pockets (allows variations of booster that I did not go into).
All without destroying new player retention by making it so that they can never move up. |

Garrett Blacknova wrote: Add a fixed-value SP bonus to each place within a team's rankings and this would work better. Top scoring player gets the modified value based on their WP total +2000SP, while the player at the bottom only gets an additional +300SP on top of the value calculated from their WP. This would also need to be modified - probably cut in half or just removed - when you reach your SP cap.
Also, any player with 0 kills, 0 deaths and 0 WP should be treated as 16th player rank regardless of how many other players have the same score. Bring back WP for damaging vehicles so this scenario can't happen to a decent AV player with an unlucky break though. This way, no matter what, if you're doing your job, you WILL be earning WP, and no matter what, if you're not doing anything, you won't be rewarded sufficiently to be worth the effort. Even if all you do is take out a Nanohive or two, you've at least contributed that much to the game.
This could work as well and be much eaiser.
With this the payout should be x2 your WP + the bonus. That way even tho people are still rewarded for AFKing they get absolute crap compared too those who actually battle.
Then when you are capped out the SP returns to the current set up. (1 per WP up to 1000 SP).
