I was reading Gamespots latest review of Dust, and while I disagree with a lot of things he said this did stick out to me as pretty true.
Even with aim assist it can be difficult to aim at times purely because of the very jerky and totally unpredictable character movements rendered by the client. Other FPS do not really have this problem. And when they do, its usually caused by extreme amounts of lag and people rage over it fairly hard.
What exactly is causing this issue in Dust, and why is it so difficult to fix? It's been there for as long as I can remember, and the more I think about it the more I start to feel like it might be the reason this game is so difficult to enjoy as a shooter compared to others.
Frame rate certainly contributes, but its definitely not the root cause. I have bumped this game down to 480p and gotten a buttery frame rate on occasion and while everything moves smoother, the jerky movements still persist quite badly. |

I did the same thing as well. Played in 480p.
That's how I learned that hit detection wasn't really fixed. Game performance is definitely one of the (top two) biggest reasons why this game is a failure. It doesn't run well when it counts.
The PC and SL should fit into Sidearm/ Equipment slots so it's accessible and practical to carry one.

my biggest problem with this game is the framerate...
have you ever tried using nova knives or a shotgun when the framerate drops? not a fun experience, i promise you.
Tell me, how exactly DOES a biscuit gain Valor?

And what gets me is why aren't more people bitching about it ? Instead a week after "Content Update" We have people making posts about a new bolt pistol and possible pilot suit............
Especially when it comes to PC its like we approve of playing at 5-10 frames... ? |

You're absolutely right. The only thing that will make me stay with this game is knowing it has a future. If game performance does not improve to at least console FPS standards, then this game does not have a good future.

Either the whole tank, or just the turret, starts spinning as it it was attached to the generators at a hydroelectric plant.
Infantry cries for tank changes, and they don't like them. Tell them to use vehicles, they complain, and use cars anyway

That's one example of how to "fix the core" gameplay. Everything you do in Dust seems "delayed" by a certain amount of ms.
You want to hack, 1,5 sec after you actually hit the button. Analog sticks are still unprecise and unresponsive. Then Lag. Latency compensation is awful, hit detection got worse in 1.7.
Anyway, looks like stronger connections doesn't have the "jerky and totally unpredictable character movements" issue - it may be a pure connection issue.

They have people working in the Dust team that previously worked at DICE. Console is the same, however, the game and graphics engines are quite different. Honestly, it could steer CCP in the right direction but not solve the problems in the code.
I just hope CCP gets the resources to do this soon, and not SoonGäó. Because it is doable. Unreal Tournament 3 (Also based on Unreal Engine 3) was working fine on PS3 (So I have understood).

I think the gigantic maps they put in really aren't helping - that's a lot of meshes which the PS3 hardware has trouble supporting. With smaller, more elaborate maps I'm guessing this would reduce the "hiking simulator" effect. The cynic in me feels they have actually designed maps that will be used for the next 10 years on the PS4 hardware... which is why they're so ridiculously large.... the PS4 hardware of course won't have a problem generating those meshes.. and it will also be able to support 48-64 players.... |

I suspect the original dev team rushed things too much and built up a mountain of technical debt that almost ruined them. However, I think CCP senior management in Iceland recognised the problem earlier this year and have taken steps to sort it out. It is taking a long time to deal with all that baggage, but they seem to be making progress, and I'm actually quite confident about the future.
