It's one thing when you spec into something which gets nerfed later because it was OP, that's your own fault for picking it in the first place. This is what most people are QQing about, because numbers changed and they don't like it. So no Respec.
It's another thing when you were never given the option in the first place due to missing Racial variants, such as Gal/Cal/Min Heavies or Cal/Amarr scouts.
You have to understand that this game is incomplete, and they've admitted to that. They pushed it out before this stuff was done to meet that 5/14 release date. Because of that, not all the racial variants were in place, not all the 'baseline' weapons were in place, and the suit and vehicle bonuses were completely jacked up.
So while I dont think there should be a respec with the release of every new weapons or whatever, I think this is a reasonable case in which the game was not complete when you were making your initial choices, and when those holes are filled it, you should be able to decide if you want to pick the route previously unavailable to you.
Also I asked about this at a roundtable at Vegas and they said they were seriously considering respecs in the future. The exact details are of course unknown, but the release of the racial suits would make the most sense.
Respecs for new items will never happen. If anyone truly believes this they are delusional. We have gotten a trickle of new items since release. Flaylock, Plasma cannon, Combat Rifle, Rail Rifle, etc. Not once did we get a respec for those, nor did we need one.
The smart players either have a pool of unspent SP waiting for new items, or start saving the moment they hear of something they want. This is why we saw
many proto CR/RR on day one of 1.7. I know i was amongst those who had saved up in preparation.
What people have to understand is that we will
always be skilling into things with new things on the horizon. There is no 'complete' state to this game. Its not your traditional shooter that releases and is done forever. There will be new stuff coming out year after year for the life of this game.
For an infantry respec to ever happen they would have to do something extremely disruptive to our trees. Complete reworks or deleting things kind of level. See vehicles if you need an example.
