Can someone confirm my math here, as I'm not too confident in my skills?
Let's say I have:
Minmatar Scout Dropsuit skill @ lvl 3 (5% reduction to Scan profile/lvl) Profile Dampening @ lvl 3 (2% reduction to Scan profile/lvl)
Let's add the Profile Dampening and Min scout skill so it adds up as 7% / lvl (Here's where I'm unsure if it works this way)
3*7 = 21 100-21 = 79
Min scout has base Scan Profile 45.
45*0.79 = 35.55
So based on that, my scan profile with Min scout would be 35.55.
Is this right?

Correct, 35.55 it is. Skills + module formula is in the post below if you want it, and unified scan theory post is below that if you want extra info.

So I can get scout to go under advanced scanners by skills alone then. Interesting..

I got 35.95 with Scout 3 and Dampening 3.
If you were curious, to dodge 28db proto scans you'd need Scout 4 and an enhanced dampener, or alternatively Scout 3/Dampening 5 and an enhanced dampener. |

The real question is, what do you need to hide from the A-45 Quantum Active Scanner? Most people use the Quantum because it lights up targets for a full 16 seconds, which is twice as long as the Proto type model (with the exception of the Duvolle Quantum Active Scanner which has an up time of 25 seconds.) The answer is a Profile of less than 36.
So Scout 3 and Profile Dampening 3 will get a scout below the radar of most scanners.

You need Scout lvl 5 do dodge ADV scanners:
45-(45*.25[Skill Bonus])= 33.75
Aternatively you can have lvl3 in both dampening and scout:
45-(45*.6[Dampening 3])-(45*.15[Scout 3])= 35.55
To dodge proto scanners (bar Duvolle Focused):
Lvl5 Dampening and Scout + 1 basic dampener = 22.5
Lvl3 Dampening and Scout + 1 enhanced dampener = 26.55
Personally, I run my 'Dren' scout with two militia dampeners (31.50 dB) because I don't have any infantry skills. Armor is useless because, lets face it, if you're not running ADV/PRO Gal scout with stacked complex armor plates, you're not going to win a fire fight. Better not to be seen.

For those running assault and trying to see those magic words "Scan Attempt Prevented": As Fox stated above, the minimum profile needed to hide from the advanced A45 Quantum which most people are using is <36. Only by adding a complex profile dampener can we meet this criteria, heres the math: So, assault/medium profile is 50. Complex dampener reduces profile by 20%, the skill required to equip the module grants a 10% reduction. 50 * .30(30%) = 15, 50 -15 = 35. 35<36 = Winning!
Beating the proto scanner and the questions surrounding them... Considering that the precision(or db) of the scanner is 28 and the profile of the medium suits is 50 we would like a 45% reduction to "be under" the radar. Stacking penalties will be our downfall here and the numbers mysteriously match up perfectly... Complex dampener #1 will grant a flat 20% reduction. When adding a second (#2) dampener you get a 17.38% reduction due to the stacking penalty. Remember that the skill required to utilize the complex add an additional 10% reduction. Those numbers would get us where we want if stacking penalties only reduced subsequent modules but thats not all stacking penalties do... With comprehensive reductions the numbers run like this, 20% for 1st module, 17.38 for 2nd module, when equipped though the 2 modules combined only grant a 33.91% bonus. Lets round the number and add our skill bonus: 34+10=44. So 50 * .44 = 22, 50-22=28. 28=28 means not winning. 28 Is the number we need to beat, 28 is magically where we ended up, coincidence? So we would need to add another basic profile dampener to beat the proto scanner...how many free low slots do you have?
So, relevant questions: 1. Is my math right? 2. Am I correct about the stacking penalty numbers? 3. Is the stacking penalty still glitched to where different named modules of the same type don't have the penalty? 4. Would'nt we be better served just adding some armor plate? Thanks in advance for your input.

For medium suits, 1 complex is needed to beat 36dB advanced scans, and 2 complex are needed to beat 28dB proto scans. Medium suits can't beat the Duvolle Focused so don't try. |

Wait. I have Scout level 3 and Dampening level 3 and get continuosly scanned, only if I add a Basic Profile Dampener to my fit I see those magic words. Since Scout 3 + Dampening 3 + Basic module shouldn't be enough to get under proto scanners those that where picking me up must have been ADV level scanners, so shouldn't I need Scout @ 4 + Dampening 3 to be safe from the A45?

As for the OP you are correct.

Hmm. The math says you shoupdn't need the bqsic dampener. There must have been proto scanners on the field or EVERYTHING IS A LIE!

Isn't it possible that the 35.55 gets rounded up to 36? I didn't pay much attention to the time I was scanned but... I don't know...

That definitely is possible, I totally forgot about the roundings. And being CCP the roundings have apparently been... funny.
