I've been getting halfway decent results out of my suit. I'm currently running mostly all ADV (no Proto).
1 Enhanced Shield Extender 2 Enhanced Damage Mods 2 Enhanced Armor Plates ADV GEK MIL SMG STD Locus nades ADV Needle
I have Armor, Biotics, Core, and Shields all at 5, as well as Extenders and Plates at 5. It seems having biotics at 5 pretty much cancels out the movement penalty from the plates. 5 on my Armor and Shield stuff gives me the most HP possible out of a handful of HP mods. I like the needle since I rely on backup in heavy fire fights, and the needle lets me keep a push going (just wish the revive icon was a bit more noticeable, and it would be nice if it would tell you whether the needle recipient was a squad member). I've gone back and forth on whether to swap a damage mod for a shield extender, but since shields= saran wrap right now, I figure the damage mod is the way to go, even with the stacking penalty (which is a bit screwed up in my opinion).
All in all, I have a middle of the road suit that excels at nothing. Not very fast, but not too slow, not a ton of HP, but not a Scout. I can do decent damage, but that is pretty easy for everyone to do, so it's not too much of an advantage. The extended sidearm clip is helpful for me since about 1 out of every 4 kills I switch to my sidearm to close the deal. When I start skilling my SMG it will definitely be an impactful bonus. I also have all my passive scanning skills up to 5. While not game changing, they definitely give me an edge when i'm out roaming by myself away from the main fighting.
The best playstyle for me to use with this fit is hit and run skirmisher, and while that's exactly what the suit is suppose to be, it seems like a weird combination of skills and mods to achieve the hit and run result (if I had been planning on being hit and run from the very beginning, I would not have skilled the way I did).
I can still get by in heavy fighting, but it usually results in KDRs like 15/10 and 19/16. I'm not complaining. The only other suits I've ever used have been the Dren BPO and the starter suits, so I have no clue what the other races are like. I do wish speed still had a real impact in gunfights like it used to.
I've taken to using vehicles for scanning lately. They are cheap as hell and the militia stuff works good enough for scanning, and it really supplements my hit and run skirmish strategy. It also catches people off guard when they take down half of a dropships shields, and instead of the dropship running away a Min Assault pops out to clear an area while the dropship comes crashing to the ground.
Every time I try to walk away, something makes me turn around and stay, and I can't tell you why
