I'm not talking about how they look, I mean how they work.
From what I understand, minmatar are about weaponizing speed, and sacrificing health for it. With that, minmatar weapons are either short-mid range with very high RoF and DPS (HMGs) or the longest range with very high alpha and very low RoF and low DPS (no good examples yet)
So where does the combat rifle fall in?
Currently, combat rifles are short-mid range, but with high alpha damage and low DPS for an assault rifle. This just doesn't work. Especially considering the relative squishiness of minmatar dropsuits.
I suggest that, to be more minmatar, combat rifles have the fully automatic variant as the basic variant, while at advanced level, longer range (as in, rail rifle range) burst variants come in.

High rate of fire, and it has the damage bonus to Armor, right? Seems Minmatar to me.

On a side note, burst HMGs are pretty damn useless as well

You can burst pretty dang fast with a good trigger finger. I've seen people with the Proto CR fire that thing incredibly fast.
It is an excellent all around weapon, and works well with troops that can quickly traverse the battlefield.
Which is why it synergizes so well with the Min Assault suit.
It's fast, and with a good build, you can get some nice shield regen and a decent amount of shields. My proto build will regen around 40hp/s and have around 460 shields. Combine that with a recharge time of around 4 seconds and my passive armor rep, and you got a trooper that is both mobile and self sufficient. Combine with Rep/ammo hives for maximum fun.
Not only that, but the sidearm bonus is dang useful. Lets you put an SMG in your sidearm slot and go to town with it in CQC when you need to.
TL;DR
I love my CR. I feel very Winmatar-ish with it

Eh? CR does a ridiculous amount of DPS. I've found myself to be far more effective with a breach AR

CR is pretty ridiculous. It's made to complement the suits which is for going back and forth between mid to short range. With the combat rifle you can kite slow gallente ARs enemies out of their range while continuously moving and engange Amarr in CQC (side arm bonuses) with an SMG, if you're silly a flaylock, or if you're a scout your knives.
You gotta look at that big picture. :D

I mean that in the sense of moving cover to cover quickly at a distance and staying out of their optimal and in yours.
Of course if you stand out in the open you're going to get your head shot off by anyone. Also it does work better in theory because the scrambler rifle is ridiculous in CQC if the person doesn't suck with it.

Long range high alpha = precision rifle I am wagering.
Also, like CCP care about the archetypes for eve, just look at amarr. |

"Low DPS" It outdamages the ******* HMG. How much DPS is considered enough? no wonder HMG is in the sad state that it is in today lol. |
