Because most of us don't want to be playing Tank514.
We have played and enjoyed this game because it has been a FIRST PERSON SHOOTER... with vehicles.
Not a ******* vehicle wargame with 5-6 tanks on either side that take zero skill points to call in and cost 1/2 the price of a proto suit that took most of us MONTHS to grind out and earn. Nevermind the fact that my proto AV does **** to militia tanks and it takes 2-3 AV players coordinated efforts to take down one cheap no SP required militia tank.
Tanks needed a buff to survivability or speed or reduction in cost, not all 3 along with a hefty nerf to AV and the ability for a team to call in 5-6? whatever the number of tanks allowed on each side.
Broken balance is broken, anyone who says otherwise is either not playing the game or perfectly happy with Tank514.

Cheers. adapt or die..i have 33 million sp all into proto suits...and i mlt tank spam..it works im having fun i dont wanna quit..i start running my suits other than av ina hav and im miserable ..not because of enemy tanks though because of shoddy game mechanics and miserably unbalanced infantry warfare

And by Adapt or Die I assume you mean.... call in a MLT tank? amirite?
LOLZ..... now that's the diverse MMOFPSRPG that I signed up for 2 years ago.

OP cheap no SP required tank spam ..... is not.
Unless you are bad at shooting? I dunno what your deal is, I do know you have been around for a long while.. seen you in pleanty of matches... kinda shocked vets like you and many others are supporting the current state of HAV's and AV. Its flip flopped for the worst....
And unless CCP changes this very quickly, just like the Flaylock, TacAR, and every other overpowered feature in the game in the past.. EVERYBODY is going to be calling in tanks.. 4-5-6 per side per match. Once they realize that its the new FOTM, and the odds are super stacked against your team unless you spam tanks as well, its going to get messy
Ive been around long enough to know that people have cried wolf, game is dying, this new glitch/exploit/FOTM whatever will kill dust. And the playerbase, while low, has remained constant through all of the doom and gloom.
BUT, I'm gonna go ahead and say that if Tanks stay the way they are as of this post.... bye bye new players (unless they are coming here only to drive around in a tank).

Battlefield 3 did vehicles right, in my opinion. (haven't played much of BF4 yet)
Each team starts with none, or 2, or some maps 3. They get blown up, they don't respawn for 90 seconds.
Then, scattered across some maps... there are tanks that spawn at objectives once you capture them, but they are subject to an even longer respawn if destroyed.
Tanks are not as fast as jeeps, they are not indestructible, 2 well placed mines destroyes most unless you have unlocked (which takes a lot of time) reactive armor.
And here is the kicker... there are game modes, and maps, where Tanks are not present at all.
The mere fact that you can call in a tank, anytime, anywhere in dust is unique... but it holds the game designers to a much higher standard when it comes to balancing them to not make them too powerful.
What we have here in 1.7 is a failure to balance them, plain and simple. They were buffed too far from the previous iteration, and their one counter (besides other tanks) was nerfed in the same pen stroke.
