1. GRIND. This is the toughest one for CCP to address. It is probably a basic feature of a game of this kind - Eve is at least as bad, I gather. But basically the game feels like a job. I have to play a certain amount of time per week or I suffer a competitive disadvantage, and to play PC I have to be on at a particular, usually not very convenient time. I have a social life and a real job, and don't have time for another one.
2. LAG. The lag in PC is horrific. This is supposed to be the pinnacle of the game, the best versus the best, and half the time it's an absolutely unplayable 1 FPS slideshow. There are simple steps that could've been taken to improve things (e.g. remove equipment noise and animations) but CCP don't seem to care. For a long time pubs were much more enjoyable for me, just because the framerate is so much better, but you can only pwn noobs so many (in my case, 27,000) times before you've had your fill. FW is supposed to fill the gap, but it's laggier than pubs so why bother?
3. 1.7. I'm not one of these nostalgia junkies who says every update makes things worse, that things were better in beta, etc. Until 1.7 I thought the game had been progressively getting better. But 1.7 demolished any hope I had for the game. Not only is it a disaster, but it was obvious it would be a disaster and CCP went ahead anyway. They've basically told pure infantry players like me to go **** ourselves. Vehicle users get a respec, we get nothing. Vehicle users get God mode, we get to hide in buildings. To be honest, it's a good thing for me, as it makes it easy to leave, which I should do anyway (see points 1 and 2). But I'm guessing the plan wasn't to alienate the 80%+ of their playerbase who want to shoot at someone who can shoot back. More fundamentally, it shows me that CCP will always pander to the loudest QQers, regardless of the consequences for game balance.
That's why I'm going, flame away. |

When I roll with them we pubstomp harder than ever because we have people who know what to do with a tank. But I've mostly been solo the last few days to try and find a challenge that isn't a lagfest.

Sad to see you go, maybe if you pick a side in fw you might have had more fun, its basically pc matches back to back without all the trash you get on every level in pc.
Going to miss seeing you on my side as a blue randomly, cone back in a year?
o7 FW is laggy (not as bad as PC but still unacceptable IMO) and the games seem even more one-sided than pubs (in favour of Gallente, who I fought for the few times I've bothered).
Don't think I'll be back in a week, a month, or a year. I have a massive backlog of PS plus games to play, then I'll get a PS4, which apparently isn't in CCP's plans.

My point is that the whole thing of having to play at a specific time if you want a meaningful game, regardless of what's going on in your life, doesn't work for me. I prefer the game to fit in around my life, not the other way round, but maybe that's just me. |

I prefer the game to fit in around my life, not the other way round, but maybe that's just me. Guess what: This will never change... in any game. Because to have "meaningful" games you will need good players to meet up at the same time. Because if you can just hop in you will always get your typical blueberries not knowing what they do. PC is "meaningful" because the corps tell who to send and especially larger corps don't allow every scrub to participate in PC. CCP can't change this. This will never change in any LOBBY SHOOTER. But at least in principle you could have a gameworld that's always live, with a massive playerbase, in which clans are constantly fighting for resources against serious adversaries, so you hop on whenever you want a real fight to help out your guys. PS2 is kind of a tentative step in that direction, maybe Destiny will do it more successfully. FW is the nearest Dust equivalent but it has too many problems right now, including the low bar to entry (necessary because the playerbase is too small for FW to be limited to vets).
But anyway, my point was not the timer thing is something that's wrong with Dust per se, just that it's one of several things that are turning me away from it. Maybe if I was still a student and single it wouldn't matter. |
