Just wanted to add my own two cents on a few key things, somewhat unrelated, that have completely removed a component of the game that used to exist pre-scanner.
This game no longer has a CQC element.
It really started with scanners and I personally am among the ballerinas on the battlefield, but I think this killed a needed tension in this game. For one, I'm aware (maybe misinformed) that once maxed out on skills, Scouts cannot beat the scanner and I feel this is a detriment. For a Scout, being stealthy is a necessary skill of their intended role and should not be beat out by one piece of equipment alone. I don't feel they should have an advantage at every stage, but having put all that hard earned sp into several skill sets and invest time, isk and maybe even hard earned money on a suit that we all know is paper thin should not be discoverable 100% of the time by one piece of equipment on my logi suit.
In addition, let's be honest, when has military intelligence ever been 100% correct. I'd like to add some randomness to the scanners. Instead of my scanning and finding only one red dot and seeing my radar have every blue dot in the general area swarm that poor lonely red, why not include a random failure in scans from time to time. Make our mad dash towards one red suddenly be a team of 3 we weren't expecting. Being able to xray the map I believe is really limiting the strategy potential it was meant to have. I love scanners and never run without them, but feel they give a bit too much access to information.
With the introduction of the RR and the CR on top of the already far reaching ADV ARs and ScR, I'm not noticing our battles getting even farther and farther apart. Maps are getting bigger to accommodate this as well and I'm hoping this trend doesn't kill our ability to have CQC at all in this game. Most of my battles now are from rooftop to ground and across the map. I remember playing this game dodging back and forth around corners. Now, its ducking back and forth down the hallway and has really made the uniqueness of your weapon variety moot. I loved the MD, the sub and the HMG, but find it no longer has a place among an army of far reaching weaponry. To put a spin on a pun, " I feel like I brought a gun to a rifle fight."
Of all the maps we have, I think Skim Junction is the only one that still forces players into a CQC position for 2 of the objectives. I think a healthy combination of both types of game play is what your direction was originally about and more maps like this is going to allow that variety back into your user base.
If this is not the direction you foresee CCP taking dust, I'd really like to know prior to the next release. Otherwise, I hope this feedback and general observation gives up a view from an average (most of the time below) player.
Also, as a developer myself, I say good job CCP. I know how hard Game developers have it and its one of the reasons I chose not to do game development. For those that gave you decent and helpful feedback, I hope you get more of that. For those that are being 8 year olds and cussing at you for your work on free product, please ignore them...and perhaps help them suddenly lose some sp. ;)
